Aston Martin extended the DB 2s appeal to the increasingly important market comprised of 'sports car enthusiasts with a family', with the introduction of the DB 2/4 in October 1953. Modifications to the rear of the chassis plus a reduction in fuel tank capacity from 19 to 17 gallons freed up sufficient space within the existing design for two occasional rear seats. Alternatively, the rear seat backs could be folded down, creating a load-carrying platform that more than doubled the luggage space. The boot could be accessed via the 2/4's opening rear door, a pioneering example of the modern 'hatchback' concept.

The DB 2/4s standard specification included the 2.6-litre 125 horsepower VB6E engine, but from early  1954 the more powerful 3.0-litre 140 horsepower VB6J unit was installed. Equipped with VB6J, the DB 2/4 was one of the fastest cars then built in Great Britain - with 100mph achievable in third gear and around 120mph top speed, all the while having impeccable handling and a level of comfort rare in any high-performance car.

This 3.0-litre DB 2/4 Mk I, chassis number 1046, was registered new in the UK in October 1955, making it one of the very last Mk I examples. Only 565 cars were made before the introduction of the Mk II which was presented the very same month. The car spent time in America before returning to the UK in 1989, and reclaiming its original registration RYK 134. It was subsequently fully restored, both cosmetically and mechanically, and has been meticulously maintained, as evidenced by numerous invoices and documents on file. The DB 2/4s engine was rebuilt in 1999 by Chestnut Classics Ltd and converted to unleaded specification subsequently. In 2009 the DB 2/4 was brought to Denmark by a Danish enthusiast, who had it registered under its current registration number A 9515. The original number plates are included in the sale.

The current owner of the car applied for participation in Mille Miglia in November 2011, and subsequently for Targa Florio in December. Furthermore, the car has won several prizes at national Concours- and Special events between 2013 and 2021.
