History of the Alfa Romeo Giulietta Spider Veloce

In an era when life was still in black and white, Alfa Romeo brought color and passion to the streets: The Giulietta Spider Veloce, designed by the legendary Pininfarina design house, was first introduced to the world at the 1956 Paris Motor Show—an event that instantly ignited desire and emotion.

With its athletic 1.3-liter twin-cam engine, delivering over 90 horsepower in the Veloce version, it wasn’t just beautiful—it was fast. The Veloce was the sportiest variant of the Spider series and embodied Italian spirit in its purest form.

Only around 2,796 examples of the Giulietta Spider Veloce were built between 1956 and 1962—each a handcrafted statement of automotive elegance and technical sophistication.

Its open body embraces the wind, while the delicate chrome details catch the sunlight like a smile on a summer morning in Portofino. The harmonious lines, the typically Italian proportions, and the sheer lightness of being—all of this makes it a true style icon of the post-war economic boom era.

The Giulietta Spider Veloce is the epitome of Italian joie de vivre:
It doesn’t just drive—it flirts with the road.

Today, more than ever, it represents a timeless attitude toward life. For individualists who do not mistake elegance for volume. For those who still celebrate their Sundays—on winding coastal roads or in the heart of the city.

Life of the Alfa Romeo Giulietta Spider Veloce Offered Here

This vehicle was built on December 9, 1958, in Milan (Alfa’s Portello factory). The engine is matching-numbers. The car was produced for the American market (original instruments with a miles-per-hour speedometer) and was imported to the USA by the Hoffman Motor Company. The likely second and last owner in the USA was Mr. Joseph McC. from Homewood, Illinois.

In November 2008, the Veloce was sold to Original Motors SARL in Paris, which carried out a nuts-and-bolts restoration. In 2009, the last and sole German owner acquired this Alfa and had it refined by Alfa Classic in Dortmund.

Only 1,253 units of the 750 F series were factory-produced between 1956 and 1959.

This Spider is in sensational condition. The paint, interior, and technology are all in excellent shape. The color combination of nero/rosso suits this Veloce perfectly. The 1300 Veloce version, with 90 horsepower, easily propels the car’s lightweight body of just under 900 kg. The engine is audible, the sound is intoxicating, and when driving with the top down, it’s breezy and windy—beyond 100 km/h, even Tony Dallara would have to make an effort to be heard over the wind and road noise.

Visually, especially in this color combination, the Veloce remains a gallant seducer and a refined Italian heartbreaker. Only the truly elegant ladies turn their heads for it.

Summary

This Veloce not only embodies the typical Italian “Dolce Vita” but is also one of the most elegant Spiders ever built in Italy. Undisputedly a style icon from Alfa Romeo.
