1932/94 Alfa Romeo 8C Monza 8C Monza 8C2311250
Chassis Number: 8C2311250
Registration Number: SP31H (Germany)
This car was constructed from the remains of Chassis number 8C2311250 by Paul Grist starting in 1991. Chassis 8C2311250 was imported into Switzerland on 26 May 1934, apparently as a new car. It is believed it was a long chassis already fitted with some sort of drophead coupe body. It is thought that this was the car which appeared at the Prix de Bremgarten in August 1935, driven by Rudolf Fischer, finishing first in the sports car class. But then the car disappeared. The Swiss Army records show that 2311250 was owned by Rudolf Schneeberger in Koppigen near Berne in May 1955 (plate BE 34526).
A vast history containing huge bills from Paul Grist & others when the car was built up comes with the car & is available upon request to qualified buyers. The current owner who commissioned the build 32 years ago started with an assortment of original parts & used these to create a tool-room copy of a monza using all original parts with the exception of the body, chassis rails & engine block & gear box. Axles, Scuttle, Brakes, etc are all original items as is the repaired crank case which was severely damaged when the car suffered a broken rod in period. The head of the engine is also the original item.
This car has a massive competition history over the past 30 years. It has participated in the Mille Miglia 4 times, Nuvolari Grand Premio, Eiffel Rennen, Nurgurg Ring, Gaisberg Hill climb, etc etc etc. It is road registered, fully road legal & comes with a valid FIVA pass. The german registration referes to it as being of 1933 origin.
Beautifully patinated, this car presents superbly with a very original feel to it as a whole. The engine has had a recent rebuilt so is in excellent robust runniing order & provides spirited performance whilst making all the right noises. With the current FIVA card this car is well known in classic circles & ready to participate in assorted events.
