1973 | Volvo 1800 ES

A classic and iconic design – was Volvo in fact the inventor of the “Sportwagen” concept? Probably not, but the shape of the ES with the beautiful glass tailgate is quite remarkable. Designed in-house by Volvo after rejecting no less than two proposals from Italian designers and based on the already beautiful design of the P1800S, the frameless tailgate was cleverly integrated and an instant classic was born. As a matter of fact the design was reborn in 2006 with the Volvo C30 model. Only about 8000 examples were produced during the final two years of production for the 1800, which makes this model quite rare. All major mechanical components were sourced from the strong and reliable Amazon models, which make an ES1800 quite easy to maintain with spare parts easily avaible at reasonable prices. The engine is the powerful B20 upgraded with Bosch fuel injection.

This example is presented in the classic and elegant Gold Metallic color, which suits the design so well and the interior is covered with black leather in a high quality. Originally a US car and therefore completely rust free. 5 years ago the car was fully restored by its owner, a Volvo enthusiast, who had the car painted and mechanically reviewed with many new parts. Even the fuel injection was overhauled. Following the photo shooting the missing emblems were fitted to the car. All in all a handsome and solid classic, which will give the Volvo enthusiast lots of joy in the future.
