Description
VW Typ 82E – KDF-Wagen (1943)
The VW Typ 82E is a special and extremely rare variant of the KdF-Wagen, developed during World War II. It combines the rugged, off-road chassis of the VW Typ 82 "Kübelwagen" with the body of the KdF-Wagen, later known as the VW Beetle. Unlike the Typ 87, which was equipped with all-wheel drive, the Typ 82E features rear-wheel drive, making it a rear-wheel-drive variant.
The VW Typ 82E was mainly produced for military use, with a ground clearance of 220 mm and a special reduction gearbox on the rear axle that allowed for excellent off-road capabilities. It was designed for various military operations, serving as a light, mobile off-road vehicle.
Production Figures and History:
The VW Typ 82E was produced in extremely limited numbers from 1942 to 1944, with only 1,206 vehicles being made across the entire KdF-Wagen series. The Typ 82E was a special production model for the Wehrmacht and was later converted for civilian use in the 1950s, making the remaining original vehicles even more valuable.
This specific KDF-Wagen was delivered in June 1943 to the Army Ordnance Office in Kassel, and was sold to a private owner in Czechoslovakia three years later. In 1987, the vehicle was brought back to Germany by Hermann Walter and underwent a full restoration. Since then, it has been part of the Hermann-Walter Collection in Kaunitz.
Thanks to the comprehensive restoration, this vehicle is in exceptional condition and represents a true rarity in the market.
