1967 | Volkswagen Coccinelle 1500
Description
The most widely-used car in automotive history continues to inspire people today, demonstrating its incredible durability and fascinating capabilities and, above all, its simplicity of construction. It was at the dawn of the Second World War that the ‘people's car’ was born under the supervision of a certain Ferdinand Porsche, the vehicle of the new Volkswagen firm. A compact but versatile engine attached to a chassis capable of carrying four occupants and their luggage, and all for a limited price - that was the cox's brief.
Our 1967 model has been fully restored by us to a like-new condition. Mechanics, chassis, bodywork and interior have all been rebuilt to look as good as new. Our example is all the more desirable thanks to its 1500cc engine in the ‘luxury export’ version. Files and invoices available on request. Car registered in France, currently in our showroom in Valence.
ENGINE AND GEARBOX
In its 1500 cc version, the 50 hp engine at 4000 rpm offers good driving pleasure thanks to its torque and wider operating range. It has been completely overhauled as part of the restoration, with extensive servicing of the engine, running gear and gearbox. A full invoice is available on request. The engine has a very good compression ratio (9 / 8.75 / 8.5 / 9). The 4-speed gearbox works very well and is a pleasure to use.
EXTERIOR
The body has been completely reworked by our body builder. The body, which was stripped of all its original paintwork, was treated in its entirety to prevent corrosion, and the parts to be replaced were completely rebuilt (front and rear panels, side members, wheel arches, etc.) as new, all in keeping with the original features. The original ‘Zenitblau’ color (code L639) has been applied, and is of course in perfect condition, with no imperfections whatsoever. Once the chassis and body were separated, the underpinnings were completely rebuilt and treated against rust, with a rustproof coating applied. The vehicle, like the engine and passenger compartment, is in as-new condition, in line with factory specifications. Restoration file available on request.
INTERIOR
The sumptuous cabin of our ‘luxury export’ version gives our example a beautiful interior. The interior has been completely refurbished by a saddler, who has redone the seat cushions and the skai/fabric upholstery with fabrics that match the original. The roof lining and door pillars were completely replaced, while the perforated vinyl previously fitted was retained. Finally, the carpets have also been changed and made to measure using the same materials, offering, like the rest of the vehicle, a quality finish in keeping with the original interior. The instrumentation, radio and heating all work perfectly. The electrical system has been refurbished. Upholstery invoices available on request.
CONSUMABLES
The historic Michelin tyres (size 165R15 86 S front and rear) are new, as is the entire braking system, which has also been completely rebuilt.
