Description

This superb little Standard Flying Ten was first registered the 31st July 1937 and appears a car that has been thoroughly enjoyed and much loved for the last 88 years. It comes to us from a member of the Standard owner’s club based in Wales and it clear this is an ideal show circuit car that’s ready to use and enjoy. When you open the doors to this sagacious Standard you are welcomed with an excellent interior made up of beautifully soft Navy leather seats, brilliant Blue carpets, and a contrasting Tan headlining. On the exterior, the Flying Ten has very honest two-tone Navy and Grey, cut through with a beautiful gold coachline with lovely patina.

NXS 566 is equipped with some lovely features. The electric heating component for the driver's section of the front screen is very period, the sliding sunroof works effortlessly, and the scuttle mounted wipers are great for if you get caught out in the damp. Overall, The Standard is a very well-equipped motor car that for the quality of the build would have made a fantastic choice for a luxury saloon when it was new.

The Standard Flying Ten was marketed in the Autocar as providing ‘excellent examples of the high development of the low-rated and modestly priced car that is being offered today' and were sold new from £169, boasted a very efficient 33mpg, and were offered as a four-door saloon or a four-door saloon de-luxe. The tag line of the Flying Standard has stood the test of time ‘for motorists who put quality first' and this rings true for this wonderful 30s British motor car. The history file is home to plenty of beautiful pieces of historic marketing and servicing data for the Flying Ten along with a handwritten notebook from a previous keeper which beholds servicing history and part numbers for service items.

To take this splendid Standard out into the Yorkshire Countryside is a true delight, the spritely engine gets you through the gears up to cruising speed swiftly and decelerates efficiently. This honest and usable example would make for the perfect vintage motor car for rallies, shows, events and local weekend use.
