Race-Inspired Design

  • Wide-Body Fenders: The 924 Carrera GT featured flared wheel arches and wide-body fenders for improved aerodynamics and to accommodate wider wheels and tires, contributing to its aggressive racing look.

  • Lightweight Construction: Weighing only 1,180 kg (2,600 lbs), the 924 Carrera GT benefitted from lightweight construction, making it nimble and responsive on the road and track.

  • Front-Mounted Engine, Rear-Wheel Drive: Its front-engine, rear-wheel-drive layout provided excellent weight distribution and balance, enhancing its handling characteristics.


Distinctive Features

  • Turbocharging: Unlike the base 924, which had a naturally aspirated engine, the Carrera GT had a K26 turbocharger, offering a significant performance boost.

  • Intercooler: It came equipped with an air-to-air intercooler mounted at the front, helping to manage intake temperatures for the turbocharged engine.

  • Suspension & Brakes: The car featured upgraded suspension components and vented disc brakes on all four wheels, providing sharp handling and stopping power.

  • 5-Speed Manual Transmission: The 924 Carrera GT came with a 5-speed manual gearbox, ensuring an engaging and precise driving experience.


Aerodynamic Enhancements

  • Front Splitter & Rear Spoiler: The Carrera GT was equipped with an integrated front splitter and a distinctive rear spoiler, improving downforce and reducing drag at high speeds.

  • Pop-Up Headlights: Like the standard 924, the Carrera GT also had pop-up headlights, which were a signature feature of Porsche's sports cars during that era.


Interior Features

  • Sporty Cabin: Inside, the 924 Carrera GT had a minimalist and race-focused interior with bucket seats, a three-spoke steering wheel, and clear instrumentation. Comfort was secondary to performance.

  • No-Frills Design: While it retained some basic comfort features, much of the interior was designed to be lightweight, with fewer luxury add-ons than standard models.

  • This model is extremely rare as it is a non sunroof car with air conditioning.


Porsche's First Front-Engined Turbocharged Sports Car

  • It was Porsche’s first front-engine, turbocharged sports car, marking a shift in Porsche's engineering approach compared to its rear-engine sports cars like the 911.

  • The Carrera GT was based on the 924 Turbo (also known as the 931), but with significant performance improvements, both mechanically and visually, making it a more hardcore version of the 924 Turbo.
