Description

  • Full history since new
  • Paint-to-Sample 'Blue Metallic' (6853)
  • Matching numbers & colors

When the Porsche 911 F model was launched, there was only a coupe. Porsche wanted to present a convertible shortly thereafter, but especially in the U.S. there were very strict safety regulations that made it almost impossible to sell a normal convertible in the States. To comply with the regulations, Porsche came up with an answer, and what one: the Targa. This ideal blend between comfort and safety was introduced in 1965 and formed the basis for a legend that lives on today as one of the most iconic Porsches ever made.

It is with great pride that we present to you today this beautiful Porsche 911S Targa. Only 614 examples of this Targa Sport version were built, which makes this car extra special. This Porsche in Paint-to-Sample 'Blue Metallic' is a one-of-a-kind appearance and was first delivered to Intercontinental Motors Corporation in San Antonio Texas on June 2, 1969, by Mr. Quin to Randolph W. Robinson, an enthusiast at heart!

Only the very best was good enough for Mr. Robinson, consequently, as an enthusiast, he treated his precious 911 in the same way. Since the day of delivery, he has meticulously kept every invoice, receipt and accompanying booklet, which results in an original overcomplete service booklet and a service history of more than 120 pages with accompanying notes and annotations. You will rarely find a 911 Targa with such a well-preserved history as this one! It is almost unbelievable to see all invoices of 55 years.

The car was equipped with impressive options such as Paint-to-Sample 'Blue Metallic', black leatherette interior and, of course, air conditioning to combat the Texas heat.

The Porsche was assembled new at the factory with the following options:

  • Special order: Paint-to-Sample 'Blue metallic' (6853)

  • Tinted rear window, single-stage heated

  • Air conditioning

  • Stut self-leveling front suspension

  • Tinted Targa side windows

  • Tinted windshield

  • Antenna - left

  • Becker Radio 'Europe' (US Band)

  • Michelin tires

Immediately after his purchase, Robinson had the dealer install round fog lights, bumper guards and a set of coir mats. He also had the Becker radio replaced with a Blaupunkt AM/FM unit, which is still present in the car. Having originally equipped the 911 with Boge Self-leveling front suspension, Robinson decided to replace it all around with new Koni shocks in 1970. Other items fitted to the car in the 1970s included Hella fog lights on the lower bumper, a Mohn ski rack with matching slats (in Texas !!!) and black painted hearts for the Fuchs alloy wheels. All of this is further evidence that Randy was a maniacal enthusiast.

In 2012, Robinson sold his coveted love after owning it for 43 years. Upon purchase, the second owner was so overwhelmed by the high originality of the beautiful car and the accompanying stack of maintenance bills that he decided to carefully continue Randy's dutiful job in the years that followed.

All panels open and close as they should and have an excellent fit. There is no rust or stone chips anywhere on the car, the Porsche was recently very professionally repainted in the original color. The Targa roof was recently completely refreshed and fits well on the front header and rear Targa bracket. The recessed black parts of the original Fuchs are faded, which gives the car a wonderful patina and matching look. The beautifully finished dashboard is in excellent condition, including all the accompanying gauges and controls.

The 911 starts well, revs smoothly and delivers an engaging sound when you press the gas pedal deeper. On the road, this 911S performs with delicious power, good handling, responsive braking and spirited acceleration across the powerband.

This matching numbers and -colors '69 Porsche 911S Targa holds the coveted Porsche Certificate of Authenticity (COA) and is offered with considerable history, including: Original purchase invoice and delivery documents, window stickers, an over-completed stamped Porsche service booklet, original Porsche owner's manual, several brochures on factory accessories including the Mohn Ski rack flyer, all possible invoices since delivery date to present and a complete toolset complete with original jack, fuses and even the original belt!

Early Porsche 911s are becoming increasingly sought after, and fully documented original cars are hard to find. This example is one of only 614 built in the 'Targa S' enthusiast configuration, which makes it all the more remarkable that this Porsche has remained in such amazing top condition.

As this rare example is one of only 614 built in the 911S Targa configuration, it is all the more remarkable that this car has been preserved in such original top condition today. This exceptionally well maintained and beautifully preserved 911S Targa combines great driving pleasure with stunning looks, making it the perfect choice for enthusiastic drivers and serious collectors alike.

This stunning matching numbers Porsche 911S Targa in PTS Blue Metallic is now available from Rock 'N Roll Classics!
