This Porsche 356 B 1600 S Cabriolet (BT6) was delivered on 28 February 1963 to the Porsche dealership Schultz in Düsseldorf according to the available data card on the delivery specs. The colour scheme of the delivery was ‘Bali Blue’ (colour number 6212B) with a leather interior and soft top in black. The sports car still bears this original colour combination today. A short time later, the vehicle was sold to the USA and remained there for many decades, probably exclusively in California. The documented workshop history in the USA with original invoices from 1973 to 2004 is particularly impressive. There is a US title from 2006. The car probably came to the Netherlands in 2007. In the course of this, a list of the maintenance and overhaul work carried out in the period from 1981 to 2004 was compiled with accumulated costs totaling around USD 48,000.

Just one year later the 356 returned to Germany. There is a German vehicle registration document for one ownership in Hamburg in September 2008 and another registration to the current owner from December 2014. Various service invoices from a Porsche 356 specialist in Hamburg are available from the last few years as well as the last MOT reports. The vehicle is essentially in a well-preserved original condition and has been regularly serviced on an ongoing basis. The paintwork has been renewed in the original colour. The engine also corresponds to the delivery specification (‘matching numbers’). In addition to the data card on the delivery specs, there is a data sheet from Porsche Deutschland GmbH from 2008. Moreover, the car is rounded off with original – and slightly patinated – manuals on operation and maintenance instructions.

This Porsche 356 Cabriolet is a rare opportunity to acquire a really well-documented example with a largely known history and original specification in good condition. And all this at an attractive price. A great summer sports car classic from Zuffenhausen that not only should be kept in the garage, but above all on the road for driving pleasure.

Model History: The Porsche 356 was launched in 1948 as the first production model of the sports car brand from Zuffenhausen and is also known as the "original Porsche". The first series ("Pre-A") was produced until 1955. In October of that year, the 356 A was presented as a modified successor. The successful Porsche 356 series was continued until 1965 in the development stages B, C and SC. The engine was always an air-cooled four-cylinder boxer. The available body styles were Coupé, Cabriolet, Hardtop Coupé (by Karmann), Speedster and at times Convertible D (later Roadster). It was not until 1963 that the 356 was replaced by the Porsche 901/911.

The 356 B model was introduced in autumn 1959 as a further development version of the A. The modifications included new asymmetrical headlights and the front wing housings ran slightly slimmer. The bumpers were raised to allow air intakes in the front apron for the new alloy drum brakes and to meet US requirements. In addition, the seats, transmission, brakes, electrics and engines were revised. The tried and tested pushrod engine always had a displacement of 1.6 litres, which was available in three power levels: 60 hp (1600), 75 hp (1600 S) as well as 90 hp (1600 Super 90), generated by different compressions and different carburettor types. In addition, there were the "Carrera" Konigswellen engines with even more power.

For the 1962 model year, there were some modifications to the B model: engine cover with two air intake grilles, fuel filler neck under a flap on the front right wing, flatter fuel tank for a larger boot, and larger front and rear windows on the coupé. A total of 31,440 units of the Porsche 356 B model were produced (all three engine versions without the ‘Carrera’), of which only 6,194 were convertibles.
