Description

This beautifully presented MG TF is one of the more scarce, factory supplied 1500 models and according to the club is one of the earliest built. This RHD Home Market car was built on the 14th-15th December 1954 and finished in Ivory with Red upholstery as it presents today, and it still retains its original factory supplied 1500 engine. Built at the MG Car Company Limited factory in Abingdon, the home market car was later shipped to New Zealand where it spent over 30 years before returning to the UK in 1989. In 1989 a British Motor Heritage trust certificate was applied for by its then owner, an employee of Air New Zealand using a Hotel address at Gatwick Airport. The car was restored at this point, and re-registered in the UK as WSU 141 in October 1989.

Since restoration the MG has covered around 9000 miles and a huge, comprehensive file of invoices show no expense spared maintenance and upkeep over the past couple of decades. During the early 2000's the MG was doing some European touring and in 2003 the TF1500 was with Brown and Gammons for some major upgrades to include a 5 speed gearbox and polished, ported and unleaded cylinder head. The marque specialists carried out a high level of work on the car to ensure it remained in strong mechanical order, all invoices are on file. Not only have owners insured the TF has been kept in excellent mechanical order, invoices are also on file for paintwork and cosmetic upkeep keeping this MG presenting in exceptional condition with the appearance of a much more recently rebuilt example.

WSU 141 first came to us during the summer of 2023 having being owned by a lady customer of ours in Suffolk for seven years. The MG had been garaged along side an E-Type sold by us a few years back, and after several years of fun motoring the decision was made to sell the car. During the seven years of ownership maintenance and upkeep continued to be excellent with invoices on file for a new water pump, sump gasket, crank seal, timing cover gasket, front plate gasket, rebuilt carb, new brake shoes, wheel cylinders, coolant hoses, and general servicing. We then prepared the MG TF for its most recent owner 200 miles away, we sold the car unseen to a new customer and fully serviced it, rebuilt the wiper motor, fitted a new master cylinder, replaced an oil seal and replaced a steering rack gaiter. The recent owner is now emigrating and leaving the UK so we have collected both the MGTF 1500 and a MKII MGA Roadster and will now find new homes for both cars. The MG has arrived with us in beautiful condition, the paintwork, bodywork, chrome work, interior and engine bay are all of a superb standard, and on the road the TF1500 is a delight with a lovely strong engine holding excellent oil pressure, smooth 5 speed gearbox enhancing drivability and performance, and both handling and braking feel sharp and responsive. This is a beautiful car, fabulous to see its retained its original engine unit and original colours, and with its gleaming finish and high quality older restoration, this is a very special car.
