1953 | MG TD

We are pleased to offer this fully rebuilt, carefully modified MG TD onto the market. One of our long term, regular customers who we’ve dealt with many times over the past 25 years has spent three years rebuilding this car to an exceptional standard. Our York based customer is a retired professional engineer with over 50 years’ experience of car restoration has taken the MG to a wonderful standard with subtle modifications and enhancements to improve safety, reliability, performance and drivability.

This stunning matching numbers MG TD was stripped down in 2019 and in over three years was taken to a beautiful standard. The body was removed from the chassis, the body then rebuilt with new timbers and tub panelling, wings, doors, running boards were all renewed and the bodyshell bare metalled and fully re-painted. Having started life in New York, the MG was converted to RHD with a brand new steering rack, track rod ends and new pedal shafts and bearings. The MG was then built up with renewed chrome, uprated locking door handles, hub caps, side lights, new headlights and tail lights.

The original engine was fully rebuilt with new pistons, re-ground crankshaft, balanced flywheel and clutch, new bearings, camshaft, followers, pushrods and new oil pump gears. Engine modifications included a modern screw on filter, both and front and rear crankshaft modern lip-seals and the cylinder head uprated to big valve TF spec with opened and flowed ports, new bronze guides and rocker shaft. Carbs were rebuilt and fitted with improved jet seals, an electronic fuel pump fitted and a full stainless steel exhaust system also fitted to the car. Further modifications included an improved geared starter and the transmission was replaced with a Ford T9 five speed gearbox. The differential was rebuilt with a 4.55 crown wheel and pinion and has had all new bearings, and a new propshaft fitted.

The upgrades have ensured a higher cruising speed and much lower revs making this an idea car for longer distance touring. Brakes and suspension have all been renewed and rebuilt, a new fuel tank has been fitted and since completion the car has been gently run in. The interior has been completely re-trimmed and the original type steering wheel re-furbished. Fully re-trimmed leather MGB reclining seats have been fitted with headrests for extra comfort, the dashboard and switch gear all renewed and all new weather equipment custom made for the car. A large Smiths heater has been installed with a variable speed fan, a USB port fitted and an isolator switch put in place for security. Having had some running in miles, this MG is now ready for some serious miles, this is an ideal car for long distance touring, weekend jaunts and in such stunning, freshly restored condition its ideal for shows, rallies and events.
