Description

We are delighted to once again offer this very special MGA Roadster that comes with impressive history and provenance. This is an incredible car for long distance touring, reliability and is no doubt one of the very best driving examples we have owned. This car of significant interest was purchased in 1989 by the Chairman of long established MG experts Brown and Gammons, Ron Gammons. The MG was subject of a full body off, chassis up restoration with photo record, and on completion obtained FIA papers and was entered in the 1990 Monte Carlo Challenge. The MGA was driven by Ron Gammons and Peter King and finished the rally 3rd place and 1st in class. The MGA featured on the front cover of the January 1991 Classic Cars Magazine, and also the MGA 50th anniversary book.

The MGA continued to be used on rally events on the Continent during the 1990's, also obtaining an RAC Rally Special Stage logbook before selling to the last owner in 2001. Over the past 20 plus years the MGA has toured Great Britain on many occasions, and has toured in Europe regularly. The MGA has covered just over 40,000 miles since its 1989 rebuild and has a fantastic track record for reliable long distance touring. The engine was slightly uprated by Ron Gammons workshop delivery 92bhp as opposed to the standard 62bhp, and also has an upgraded radiator, cooling fan and 123 ignition has been fitted for improved reliability.

Since last selling the MGA in 2023, it's covered 4000 faultless miles of long distance touring across Europe and over the Alps. The car has been thoroughly enjoyed and now returns to us in part exchange.

XSU 431 has been superbly maintained since restoration and an extensive invoice file comes with the car. In 2003 it was treated to further engine work, and the car has arrived with us mechanically exceptional and driving superbly. The A offers improved performance, the subtly upraded engine is strong, holds excellent oil pressure and the car has a wonderful, usable and sprightly feel. The four speed gearbox is lovely to use and is smooth up and down the gears and it handles and holds the road superbly. The car also presents superbly, further so considering the length of time since restoration. The chassis is first class, the bodywork excellent and straight and the paint finish of a lovely standard. The interior trim is very sharp, as is the weather equipment, engine bay and boot.

This is a fantastic car, one with true provenance and its long term reliability has been proven with its years of long distance overseas touring.
