Description

The Mercedes with the R107 model was introduced in 1971 as a replacement for the aging W113 series, or colloquially known as the “Pagoda”. It was a radical new beginning with a completely new chassis, which was largely taken over from the / 8 series and with new engines, starting with the 350 SL in 1971. Its new appearance was ultra-modern and formative for the upcoming Mercedes design. When it was released, it was a vehicle from another planet, the large H4 broadband lights, the large corrugated taillights and the new V8 with 3.5l displacement let wealthy customers pull out the checkbooks.

In October 1971 the 350 SLC (C107) was presented at the Paris Motor Show. It replaced the Mercedes 280 SE 3.5 from the W111 series, which, however, was based on the S-Class. Mercedes had decided not to build a new coupe based on the upcoming new S-Class (W116), but to build a coupe based on the R107 Roadster. With an extended wheelbase and a fixed coupe roof, it received 4 full seats and impressed with its elongated, graceful line. In order to solve a problem with the large and non-retractable windows, the rear windows were made smaller and fixed slats were installed behind them, which gave the vehicle an independent design and a noticeable unique selling point.

In the spring of 1973 the 450 SLC was presented, it is a vehicle with the enlarged 4.5l V8 engine. This engine was only offered with an automatic transmission and now had an abundance of torque so that longer rear axle ratios could also be fitted. It is a very harmonious engine that initially had 225 hp, later, when Bosch switched to K-Jetronic mixture processing, only 218 hp. Instead, fewer exhaust gases were emitted and fuel consumption was reduced by around 15%.

In contrast to the R107 (roadster with hardtop), the Mercedes SLC was produced in much smaller numbers; production ended in 1981, that of the roadster only in 1989.

The C107 received a successor in October 1981. It was the C126, a coupe again based on the current S-Class, which was more spacious and was no longer defined as sporty.

** This 450 SLC** is a vehicle from the first facelift with the revised engines that have mechanical fuel injection and develop 218 hp without catalytic converter technology. The vehicle offered here was bought on December 20th, 1978 (in time for Christmas !!) by the Mercedes dealer S.A. Garage de la Frontiére in Monaco delivered to its first owner Mr. Schaller in fine Monaco. It was ordered in a very eye-catching but also classic color combination in classic white with red leather and very extensive equipment.

The car then changed hands to Italy at the turn of the millennium and was only moved a little.

The car was discovered by us in Italy in autumn 2019 and transported to us on behalf of a very good customer of our company to restore it to a new condition. The car was completely original, is accident-prone - and above all 100% rust-free. The entire interior has been preserved in the original, the leather has no cracks or damage and has just the right patina. The original carpet, wood and chrome have been preserved and are evidence of the careful treatment by its owner.

Since the paint had various defects, we decided to renew the paint from the ground up. To do this, all the technology, all the decorations and the glass were dismantled, the paint was sanded down to the bare metal and completely rebuilt with Glasurit products from the Classic Line. In the meantime, the entire technology has been dismantled and dismantled, all components such as engine, gearbox, front axle, rear axle with differential, brakes, steering, springs, shock absorbers, level control, exhaust system, cardan shaft, and more, dismantled, revised and reassembled with new original parts . The work was done by the renowned Mercedes specialist Mario Lüdke from Classic Benz Service, the new paintwork was carried out at Effertz & Mainzer GmbH in Bergheim. A total of over 100,000 has been invested in the restoration. The work was completed with a new set of Michelin XWX tires, a full TÜV certificate with H mark and a wax preservation.,

This Mercedes C107 is probably the best SLC on the market. Its entire mechanics, including the automatic air conditioning and cruise control, were overhauled, and approx. 2,000 hours were invested in the restoration. It impresses with its preserved patina and drives like a new car of its time. Every detail was taken care of, only original materials were used, even the clamps in the engine compartment. This vehicle is an absolute exception, normally Mercedes of the SLC series are not completely overhauled for financial reasons, usually only the most necessary repairs are carried out so that the car runs again. (Somehow !!!!) Here, everything was consistently dismantled and expertly inspected and repaired, so that it is now fit again for the next 40 years. If you want the best of the best and demand perfection, then this 450 SLC is your vehicle....... We sell the vehicle with a 1 year warranty.
