Description

The Mercedes-Benz C107 series comprises iconic sports cars produced by Mercedes-Benz from 1972 to 1980, marketed under the SL (R107) and SLC (C107) model names, with various designations indicating engine displacement. The SLC (C107), a two-door coupe, featured an extended wheelbase of 36 cm (14.2 in) and practical rear seating, marking it as the first and only time Mercedes-Benz based an S-class coupe on the stretched SL roadster platform rather than a full-sized S-class sedan.

During its decade-long production, a total of 62,888 SLC models were manufactured, with just 1,636 units of the 450 SLC-5.0 and 1,133 units of the 500 SLC, making these models highly coveted among collectors today. Interestingly, most SLC vehicles were distributed outside of European markets, resulting in the rarity of original German specification examples.

The featured vehicle, with chassis number 107 02612 001235, was first registered in September 1979, presented in a striking anthracite metallic color and equipped with a sought-after electric sunroof option. With only five registered owners, this car’s 184,799 kilometers are thoroughly documented, supported by an extensive history file that reflects both its current condition and historical registration.

This exceptionally well-maintained SLC boasts an original Mercedes Service book with 17 stamps, primarily from its first two owners in the Baden-Baden area of southern Germany. The detailed service records from the third and fourth owners further enhance the vehicle's provenance.

  • 3rd Owner (2005 – 2010): Decker (sold to Weckes by Mirbach GmbH, Hamburg)
  • 4th Owner (2010 – 2021): Krefeld
  • 5th Owner (2021 – Present)

Under the bonnet, the European 5.0-liter V8 engine (M 117 E500), displacing 5025cc, delivers a cruising power of 177 kW (240 PS) through a K-Jetronic fuel injection system and a 3-speed automatic transmission. The 450 SLC 5.0 was specifically produced to homologate the SLC for the 1978 World Rally Championship, contributing to its legacy. Notably, these vehicles enjoyed immense popularity among Formula 1 drivers during that era.
