Description

The 1930s - turbulent times in which status symbols for the elite became increasingly important. High-capacity, prestigious vehicles for the top echelons of business and the military were one of Mercedes Benz's strengths. The period was characterised by technical innovations and further developments. The manufacturers of luxury automobiles outdid themselves with exclusivity and ever more powerful engines, of which the supercharged engines from Mercedes Benz were certainly the pinnacle.

The Mercedes-Benz 500 K was the successor to the Type 380. It was presented in March 1934 at the International Automobile and Motorcycle Exhibition (IAMA) in Berlin. Various body variants of the 500 K were presented there, including saloons, coupés, roadsters and convertibles.

From 1934 to 1939, the 500 K series was a model in the luxury segment of the vehicle range and was reserved for selected individuals only. Both saloons and open-top vehicles with different bodies were offered. The engine was an approx. 100 hp 8-cylinder, which was also equipped with a Roots supercharger. The supercharger achieved around 160 hp. The supercharger was a pioneering technology at the time and gave the 500 K its unmistakable performance. The 500 K - a top example of technology, design and aesthetics from this period.

The Cabriolet B-Design is characterised by its clear lines and the handcrafted interior, which is refined with the finest materials such as chrome, wood and leather. The 500 K combines the comfort and technology of its time with timeless aesthetics.

The vehicle was delivered in November 1935 and has a remarkable journey behind it. Registered and transferred to Gleiwitz/Poland in December 1935, it undoubtedly has a fascinating history. After the war, it was taken to the USA as part of the reparations payments and came to Austria in the early 1960s.

From 2009, the vehicle was fully restored by a German restoration company in a complex, four-year process. Restoring this vehicle was undoubtedly a challenge, but the result speaks for itself. The car was not only restored to its original splendour, but also to a condition that will stand the test of time.

The history of the vehicle can be easily traced on the basis of the available documents and offers a unique insight into the world of classic automobiles. It is not only a piece of automotive history, but also an impressive example of the craftsmanship and dedication that go into the restoration of such vehicles.
