Description
JAGUAR E-Type Roadster Series 1 3.8 Litre
Design icon
Quote from Fritz B. Busch (motor journalist): "I wouldn't be able to sleep peacefully if I didn't know that an E-Type was slumbering in my garage."
Once dubbed "The most beautiful car in the world" by Enzo Ferrari, the Jaguar E-Type embodied the glamour and charm of the Swinging 60's. Our example from Series 1, the original model from 1963, embodies the most enduring automobile icon that the Empire has ever created.
The extensive historical documents available to us show that, according to research by the Jaguar Daimler Heritage Trust, the E-Type Roadster was produced on March 4, 1963 as a "Fixed-Head-Coupé right hand" drive and delivered to its first owner (known by name) in Heswall, Cheshire on March 14, 1963 by "Henlys Limited, Manchester". In January 1974, the Jaguar was purchased by a Mr. Brian H. from Basildon, Essex, who drove it for several years before finally storing the car in a garage. In March 1988, Mr. H. decided to completely restore the car and rebuild it as a roadster. The project was started in July 1988 and successfully completed in March 1991. John Hartley T/AS Classic Touch was commissioned to carry out the project. During the restoration, a roadster body made from new parts and according to factory standards was used and all mechanical components were renewed, overhauled or rebuilt. According to a statement from Mr. H, the aim was to achieve a result that was "better than original condition" - i.e. at least or better than when delivered from the factory.
The technically and visually outstanding design of the body, the technology and all the work carried out was confirmed on August 10, 1997 by a 2nd place at the Concours D' Elegance of the Jaguar Driver's Club. The mileage at that time was 4,179. The current mileage on August 19, 2024 is 10,433 after restoration.
The car has since been kept in optimal condition by a collector. The current condition largely corresponds to the condition after the restoration in 1991. A current Classic Data assessment after reviewing the documents, technical inspection and test drive certifies an overall condition rating of "2 plus".
The Jaguar starts perfectly, immediately falls into a quiet, bassy idle and responds to the accelerator without delay, whether cold or warm. The 6-cylinder engine surprises with a rich torque curve and enormous power. The extremely powerful acceleration, the torsion-resistant body together with the agile chassis give a fantastic driving experience. Jaguar racing technology from the 1950s that can actually be experienced, domesticated for the road.
We are handing over the car with a fresh general inspection, H-approval and ready for registration.
