Description

1969 Jaguar E Type 4.2 liter Series 2 Coupe 2+2
Chassis Number: P1R42652
Registration Number: VVJ507G
The current owner has had it since 2007. It went to America as a left hand drive car on a ship called the thorbjorg into New York & it’s second owner took it to North Carolina where it was used until 1983 where it was dry stored in a garage until it came over here in 2005 and was stored until he bought it. The car then had done an exhausitve nut and bolt restoration upon it incorporating assorted modern upgrades both for increased performance & driveability. It was purchased after a long searchg with the goal being to find an original rot free car to start with as the basis for the as new restoration project undertaken over a several year period.
All the metalwork is original and none of it replaced apart from the bonnet under tray. The body was stripped to bare metal and painted and all the chrome has been re chromed the windscreen replaced with new. It has the sundlym tinted windows which was an option and is a power steering car which is rare for a mk2 indicated by the "P" prefix in the chassis number. The rear end was removed stripped powder coated and reassembled with new bearings seals new brake disks pads and stainless pistons in the calipers. The prop shaft was painted and has all new universal joints fitted. The gearbox was rebuilt with new seals and refilled.
The engine was re-bored and has Marle 9:1 pistons solid rods and new bearings (this was done at chesmonds in Coventry). The crank has the guy broad crank seal conversion to remove the rope seal so it does not leak! The flywheel was lightened and new clutch , new oil pump, water pump, timing chain and tensioners fitted. The distributor was rebuilt by the distributor doctor & a spin on oil filter conversion done. The car has updated engine mounts. The head has new guides, seats, valves & uprated double valve springs along with iscodarian fast road camshafts. The head was mildly ported by Peter burgess in alfreton , triple Weber’s installed, a new steering rack fitted with updated polybush mounts.
The front suspension was rebuilt with poly bushes new bearings etc the front end has a vented disk conversion with 4 pot calipers and has fully stainless wire 6.5x 15" wheels. Every Brake line was replaced with cunifer lines and all the flex’s are stainless. Basically everything has been rebuilt or replaced.
The car comes with the history from America and loads of receipts and some from its past with mileage on and the original shipping papers. Also the entire interior was replaced with all new carpet headliner seats, seat foams etc etc. The heritage certificate from Jaguar comes with the car as well. All the original parts come with the car so it can be put back to original if desired. It has a current MOT certificate.
Upon completion the car had a several page colour article done upon it in Practical Classics magazine & it has to be said that the results are an accolade to the owner/restorer who left no stone unturned in pursuit of perfection.
This is a car that drives far far better then when new. The suspension is slightly stiffer then standard yet still supple & taut at the same time. The engine breathing though triple twin chok Webber Carbs has serious performance & is a pleasure both to drive & listen to. To sum up this is a car that wants for nothing & benenfits from assorted sensible uprgrades to make a modern-day useable fast road car. You really have to see this car to aprreciate the quality of the works done to it.
