1969 FORD MUSTANG BOSS 302 In concours order.
Vin Number: 9F02G194872
Registration Number: FY566TC (French).
A rare matching numbers car with high end concours restoration.
When Ford hired vice president Semon “BUNKIE” Knudson in 1968 he brought with him stylist Larry Shinoda. The first fruit of their collaboration at Ford was the most notably BOSS 429 the mission was to homologate the new “semi hemi” engine for NASCAR races.
The purpose was to depose the Chevrolet Camaro from the Trans-Am series throne it held in 1968 & 1969.
The Mustang Boss 302 was the more civilised of the two versions (302 and 429), it was suitable for everyday use, which is why it was the more polished of the two versions. It should not be forgotten that Bunkie's first goal was not to make a mass production car, (only 1628 made in its first year 1969) but just to produce it in sufficient quantity to ensure the homologation of the Mustang trans-am that was going to race on the circuits in this year 69!
This BOSS 302 is finished in Acapulco Blue with a black interior and has recently been treated to a nut & bolt restoration on all original metal. Only 375 Acapulco Blue 1969 Boss’ 302s produced! This BOSS still retains its original numbers, matching interior, the original Borg Warner 4 speed transmission with a Hertz quick change stick and optional Traction Loc differential complete the BOSS’ potential drive train.
Special Handling Suspension and power front disc brakes as well as wide tyres on Argent painted Magnum 500 wheels made the BOSS 302, in the words of Car & Drivers Magazine, “the best handling Ford to ever come out of the Dearborn factory”
The engine, completely rebuilt at a cost of £35000, - uses 10. 6:1 compression, forged rotating assembly and high flow heads for a rating of 290 HP.
This BOSS is one of the few original 1969 emission cars left of which only 375 in Blue. It is a complete matching drive train with all original suspension and spoilers.
It has the optional 3.91 traction loc rear end.
