Description

1937 Bugatti Atalante
Chassis number: 57598
Registration Number: EEC Registered.
This is an entirely matching numbers car in impeccable condition with a wonderfully preserved original interior in "Havana" leather as specified when new. This is a car with no stories & comes with impeccable provenance.
The current owner is proud to announce that a FIVA-representing international jury has awarded their 1937 Bugatti Atalante (57598) "Best of Show" at the recent Scholss Schwetzingen concours de elegance in August of 2024.
In 1935, Jean Bugatti penned the Atalante body style, which was perfected by the manufacturer’s in-house stylist Joseph Walter.
Between 1936 and 1938, only 34 examples of the Atalante were built for Bugatti’s Type 57 chassis. During the previous year, however, four prototypes were completed.
57598, delivered in January 1938, is the first in the series of 10 factory-coupes with Aluminium bodywork of the final production year of this piece of artistry of art deco design and ingenious technology.
The car is exceptional is exceptional in more than one way:
An extraordinary automobile in a fantastic one-off 2-tone Bordeaux-red color combination, matching numbers, original leather interior and the full history is known, all the way back to the celebrity first owner monsieur Marcel DORET from Paris (3 May1896 / 31 August 1955)
Monsieur Marcel DORET is a French national hero, a World War 2 & test pilot, who broke 18 aviation world records during his career. They even named an Avenue after him at the 16 arrondissement in Paris !
But also, because the vehicle was be kept by its first owner until the end of his life, i.e. for more than 17 years. This partly explains the remarkably state of conservation of the original leather interior and bodywork.
Three other long-term custodians have owned 57598. They treated this masterpiece with respect and today it looks the same as she left the Molsheim factories some eighty-six years ago.
Capable of cruising at 150 km/h in modern highway traffic among the flow of modern cars the Atalante hasn’t aged a bit and opens all doors to the worlds most prestigious Concours d’Elegance where it wins all the hearts and votes. As indeed it did in 2018, at the Concorso d’Eleganza Villa d’Este where it was honoured with the Mention of Honor Class C / Shaped by the Wind: Grandes Routières of the Art Deco Era.
The car may be viewed by prior appointment to qualified buyers North of Metz in France. It is in perfect running condition & ready for immediate extended use.
