Description
Incredible barn find BMW E12 530i with a long and important racing history.
The history of this car was established during over more than 9 months of investigation, through various contacts with the former owner Jean-Marc Smadja and with Dan Benoit, the son of Georges Benoit from «Sport Garage G. Benoit», the processing of a few hundred photographs and magazine articles from back then and by the discovery of layered paint remains beneath the more recent white color of all the liveries the car has had over the years.
prepared by the semi-official french BMW team «Sport Garage G. Benoit», it started its campaign in 1977 in the «Championnat de France de Voitures de Production» (French Production).
The history of this E12 continues at the French Production championship for the 1978, 1979 and 1980 seasons. This car has also 3 participations in the «24 Heures de Spa Francorchamps», in 1977, 1979 and 1980.
In these 4 years, this has been raced by drivers such as Alain Cudini, Guy Fréquelin, Gérard Bleynie, Philippe Gurdjian, Jean-Louis Schlesser, Claude Ballot-Léna, Lucien Guitteny and Jean-Marc Smadja.
It was backed up and maintained by «Sport Garage G. Benoit» in 1977, 1978 and 1979, although during this last season already with some involvement of «J.M.S. Racing», which in 1980 would take over the care of the car.
In 1982 it was acquired by the portuguese driver Álvaro Parente, who, race serviced by «Garagem Aurora», participated with very good results in the «Campeonato Nacional de Velocidade» in Portugal.
In the following season, in 1983, still with «Garagem Aurora», continued to race in the «Campeonato Nacional de Velocidade» with Carlos Veiga.
During the remaining 1980s, it has participated in a few autocross events in Portugal and was “restored” in the 1990s to a configuration more suitable for road or track racing, although it never returned to competition.
It still retains the correct ratio gearbox, the correct limited slip differential and final drive, the correct stabilizer bars, the correct brake discs and calipers, all as specified on the homologation form.
