Description

The ‘Derby’ of the 4.25 litre Derby Bentley refers to Bentleys of this era being built in the Rolls-Royce factory in Derby following Rolls-Royce’s acquisition of the Bentley brand. This model of car was first presented to the public in September 1933, and were the epitome of luxury vehicles at the time.

This Bentley was registered 23rd October 1936 to Mrs V. Jarrott and passed though only two other owners before coming into the current owners’ care. It has seen a World War, three monarchs and come through it all retaining much of its originality and elegance. It has even been used as a rally car!

The current owner has now brought the Bentley to us, to find a new home, so she can continue her journey in timeless elegance.

This particular Bentley is a rare Sports Saloon, with the body being built by the coachbuilder Windover, who produced a total of only 15 bodies for the 4.25 Litre Bentley, 6 of them being the Sports Saloon type. This car was actually the first Derby Bentley 4.25 Sports Saloon body made by Windover. Making this car a rare first example as well as a survivor.

The paint is a gorgeous two tone, sapphire blue bodywork and steel blue wings, running boards and waistband. the seats are trimmed in the correct style but, vinyl as opposed the original leather Windover would have used when new. The carpets however, are almost certainly original as is the headlining, door cards and the remainder of the trim. The engine is in good working order and the bodywork is straight and sound. This Bentley has been maintained with love and care over the years by the current and past owners.

We have documents including a number of the Bentley’s old MOT’s, scans of test documents from 1936, and detailed information about work done on the car. This includes photographs of the engine rebuild by Brunts of Silverdale, taken out in 1995. Brunts also electrically rewired the Bentley. Lionel Wells, a well known and respected Bentley specialist, has done work on this car.

The Bentley had a raft of mechanical and coach work done in 2009 – 2010, but this was non-invasive and it retains its originality. Then, in 2017 Calvert-Wells & Co Ltd carried out extensive work on the car bringing it up to its current wonderfully maintained condition. The car is very solid and sound mechanically and drives wonderfully. It has done only 85408 miles from new.

This Derby Bentley waits for you to test drive and enjoy, here at CMC.
