1930 Austin Heavy 12 Burnham Saloon
Description
We are delighted to offer this beautifully presented Austin Heavy 12 Burnham Saloon onto the market. VX 3960 is very correct example, and still retains a large amount of originality including its registration mark. We have known the Austin since 2017, it had previously spent over three years with one owner in the York area who had found the Austin totally reliable and usable. We sold the Austin in early 2018 to a long term regular customer based relatively local over the Wolds. Over a four year period its lady owner thoroughly enjoyed driving the car hundreds of miles, participating in many rallies and events in the area. We then took the Austin back in 2022 and sold the car to one of our long term clients in Leeds.
The Austin has been superbly maintained with no expense spared in recent years. When we initially purchased the Austin in 2017, the owner explained it had been treated to a new water pump impeller, a new oil pressure gauge, new wiper motor and wiper arms. From the history file with the Austin we know back in 2011 some major mechanical work was carried out. This included dismantling the engine and rebuilding it as necessary. New parts included gaskets, head studs, valve guides, valves, timing gears, timing chains, manifold studs and nuts and new sump bolts. Further work included fitting a new clutch, stripping and cleaning the Autovac and setting the brakes. Since 2018, a further £10,000 has been spent on the Austin to include rebuilding the cylinder head, new spring eye bushes, rebuilding the king pins, re-lining the front and rear brake shoes, new rear lights and brackets and related re-wiring, fitting indicators, new fuel gauge and sender unit and regular servicing.
VX 3960 drives very well with good steering, efficient brakes and the engine runs and performs beautifully. The four speed gearbox is a delight to use, the 12/4 cruises nicely and feels strong, robust and reliable. The Austin charges correctly, starts up confidently and is ideal for shows and weekend driving. The bodywork is structurally superb, the paint finish is of a very good standard, clearly last painted many years ago and the interior is stunning with wonderful, rich beautifully aged Red leather. This is a very smartly presented Austin with a lovely, honest original feel and it can be driven and enjoyed with confidence.
