Enrico Fumia of Pininfarina's low slung wedge design with high 'kammtail' was reminiscent of his earlier Audi-based Pininfarina Quartz prototype of 1981. The striking lines of the new Grand Turismo Veloce (GTV) and Spiders, revealed at Geneva Salon in 1995, earned countless prestigious design awards from most motoring quarters. Characteristically, the car features concealed headlamps, designed in conjunction with Carello, mounted beneath a clamshell bonnet with illumination port-holes. Build quality was notably a close match to its German rivals and the GTV/Spider helped considerably with rejuvenating Alfa Romeo's reputation for beautiful design and quality crafted sportscars. In the year 2000, two-litre cars were fitted with an upgraded twin-cam engine with 153bhp.

This lovely and incredibly low mileage example of the future classic Alfa Romeo 916 Spider is presented in the very best colour combination of Alfa Red with a lovely tan leather interior providing contrast to the beautifully designed interior. With just one former keeper this car also boasts, we are informed, a comprehensive detailed history and as you would expect the car presents and drives as if new. Recently the cam belts have been replaced and, being a later example, the roof is electric and has air conditioning and electric windows. The Pininfarina design is as good today as it was in the 90's and with a new MoT certificate this is not only ready to be driven away, it is an ideal future classic with prices sure to rise in the coming years.
