1966 | Alfa Romeo Giulia Sprint Speciale

De naam zegt het al: “speciale”. En dat mag deze Alfa Romeo met recht worden genoemd. Want met een productieaantal van in totaal 1366 stuks is dit zeker exclusief te noemen. En wat dacht u van de styling? De befaamde ontwerper Franco Scaglione, werkzaam voor Bertone, heeft destijds een absoluut meesterwerk geleverd dat eigenlijk in een kunstmuseum thuishoort, maar die, zij het zeer zelden, gewoon op de weg te zien is. Heel bijzonder is dat de aerodynamische carrosserie een luchtweerstandscoëfficiënt van slechts 0,28 heeft. Echt uniek in die tijd, en ook voor zelfs de twee volgende decennia, want daarna werd dit pas overtroffen.

Deze Giulia Sprint Speciale is een van de laatst geleverde exemplaren en werd 1966 op kenteken gezet. Het is de 1600 cc. uitvoering, wat betekend dat de 116 pk leverende 4 cilinder DOHC motor, gekoppeld aan een heerlijke vijf versnellingsbak, slechts 860 kg hoeft voor te bewegen. Dat alles gaat met zoveel souplesse en bedieningsgemak, dat elke kilometer een autofeest is. Het grote genieten zet zich ook voort bij het zien van het prachtige interieur waarbij ieder detail bewijst dat de totaalrestauratie die deze auto onlangs heeft ondergaan, een van grote klasse is geweest. We hebben persoonlijk de gehele restauratie gevolgd, en natuurlijk getuigen vele foto’s van een grondige “bare metal” en professionele aanpak. Nadien heeft de auto slechts de inrij kilometers gemaakt en staat er nu een  geweldige Giulia SS bij ons te pronken. En hier zijn we erg blij mee, want een SS van deze kwaliteit is heel moeilijk te vinden.

De auto is volledig origineel. Zelfs de prachtige en kostbare Borrani spaakvelgen waren destijds als optie te verkrijgen.

Alfa Romeo staat garant voor subliem rijdende auto’s, en wanneer al die mooie techniek ook nog eens in een carrosserie zit die zijn gelijke qua styling niet kent, dan moet je als eigenaar van zoiets moois toch te benijden zijn, nietwaar?

And what about the styling? The renowned designer Franco Scaglione working for Bertone, delivered at the time an absolute masterpiece that actually belongs in an art museum, but which, although very rarely, can be seen on the road. Very special is that the aerodynamic body has a drag coefficient of only 0.28. Truly unique at that time, and even for the next two decades, because it was only then that it was surpassed.

This Giulia Sprint Speciale is one of the last copies delivered and was registered in 1966. It is the 1600cc. version, which means that the 116 bhp 4-cylinder DOHC engine, connected to a wonderful smooth shifting five-speed gearbox, only has to move 860 kg. All this is done with such flexibility and ease of use that every kilometer is a true joy. The great enjoyment also continues when you see the beautiful interior, where every detail proves that the total restoration that this car has recently undergone, has been one of a high class. We personally kept an eye on this restoration and many photos testify to a thorough “bare metal” and professional approach. After it was fineshed, the car only made the test kilometers and we now have a great Giulia SS on display. And we are very happy about this, because an SS of this quality is very hard to find.

The car is completely original. Even the beautiful and expensive Borrani spoke rims were at the time available as an option.
Alfa Romeo guarantees superbly driving cars, and when all that beautiful technique is fitted in a body that has no equal in terms of styling, then you must be envied as the owner of something so beautiful, right?
