Let’s begin by clearing up the name of this car. Some may look at it and think of a Rolls-Royce Corniche, and they wouldn’t be entirely wrong. This model is the Corniche’s predecessor, sharing a very similar appearance. Officially, it is called the Rolls-Royce Silver Shadow H.J. Mulliner Park Ward Drophead Coupé – a mouthful, indeed! Of this model no more than 500 cars were produced and all of the car were hand built as oppose to the later corniche.

This particular model is notable for its sleek chrome bumpers, which distinguish it from the painted or rubberized bumpers found on later Corniche models. The Drophead Shadow was introduced in 1967 as a convertible variant of the celebrated Silver Shadow, built by Mulliner Park Ward. Initially powered by a 6.2L V8 engine, it was later upgraded to a 6.75L version and equipped with advanced features like a hydropneumatic suspension system.

Exterior: The exterior of this Rolls-Royce Silver Shadow Drophead Coupe is finished in a stunning metallic maroon color, which shifts beautifully in tone depending on its exposure to sunlight. The bodywork, crafted by Mulliner Park Ward, is really beautiful, enhanced by the early fully chromed bumpers that give it a more classic appearance. All exterior details, including the chrome trim, are in near-perfect condition. The panel gaps are consistent and well-aligned. While the paintwork is good, it is not flawless, with minor signs of use such as scratches and paint chips. The car also features a fully restored soft top, which has been expertly fitted. Additionally, it includes a high-quality soft top cover that fits perfectly. The body is entirely free of corrosion.

Interior: The interior of this Rolls-Royce Silver Shadow convertible is a luxurious and inviting space. It features black leather upholstery on the seats and door panels, all original and still in excellent condition. The seats, which share resemblance with plush living room sofas, are electrically adjustable. As with the exterior, the finer details of the interior are in remarkable condition. The windows and soft top are electrically operated and function flawlessly. A particularly charming feature is the concealed, lockable "mini bars" integrated into the door panels. The wood paneling throughout the interior is also in great shape. With the soft top up, the interior is just as elegant, providing a coupe-like experience thanks to the exceptional quality of the top, which is nearly 10 cm thick and features a premium wool headliner.

Engine and Mechanics: The Rolls-Royce Silver Shadow Drophead Coupe truly shines in its mechanics. This car offers a driving experience that is both unique and enjoyable. The steering is so light that it can be operated with a pinky finger, the brakes respond smoothly yet provide powerful stopping capability, the gear shifts are seamless, and the suspension gives the sensation of gliding on clouds. The car is powered by a 6.2-liter V8 engine, with its exceptional ride quality owed to a high-pressure hydropneumatic suspension system licensed from Citroën, featuring dual-circuit braking and hydraulic self-leveling suspension. Recent major work includes a full brake system rebuild, with new calipers at all four corners and new brake hoses. Additionally, the hydraulic oil pumps have been restored, a significant and costly undertaking. Lastly the carburetors and choke have also been restored.

History:This Rolls-Royce was originally sold new in Essex, England and it is believed to have been delivered as a left-hand drive vehicle. It remained in Essex until the mid-1980s, when it was exported to the United States. In 1990 a famous Swedish entrepreneur called “Sko Uno” was in the market for a Rolls Royce convertible. He reached out to importer Robert Aften who sourced this particular Rolls Royce in California. The car stayed with Uno until he passed away in 2018 and the car was acquired by its current owner. The car comes with its original tools and jack, along with the original books, including a service book stamped 12 times up to 66,800 miles. The vehicle is also accompanied by all Swedish MOT papers, a few British MOT records, and some service documents.
