We have the pleasure to offer for sale this matching numbers 2002 Hazardous Porsche 996 GT3-RS with VIN Nr WP0ZZZ99Z2S692064.

Somewhat confusing, the models name contains "GT3" whereas these cars were competing in the GT2 class. Designed strictly for competition on the world's most important racing circuits, the Porsche 996 GT3 R-RS-RSR lineage represented Porsche Motorsports pinnacle racing GT during the 1999 - 2006 period.

In 1998 Porsche finally put the air-cooled flat 6-cylinder engine to rest. The last of the air-cooled 911s (993) left Weissach and the assembly lines in Stuttgart. The 996 was the new 911 and its chassis was the GT car for the future of Porsche Motorsport. Every component of the 996 was new: chassis, bodywork, gearbox, engine, suspension, engine management, and cooling system. At the time of its launch, the new GT3R was made to the current ACO rules for the GT category in 1999. In 1999 the Porsche 996 GT3R was launched which was updated in 2001 to become the 996 GT3RS and then again in 2004 to become the 996 GT3RSR. In total, less than 200 cars were built over the 6-year period and the 996 GT3 R(S)R is one of the most successful GT cars ever built and has won its class in every arena it has entered such as 24hrs of Le Mans, 24hrs of Spa, 24hrs of Daytona, FIA GT championship, etc..

The 996 GT3-RS features a reinforced 6 speed manual gearbox and a naturally aspirated 3.6-liter Mezger flat-six engine tuned for maximum performance and durability in racing conditions. With a lightweight chassis, stripped interior, and extensive use of composite materials, the 996 GT3 RS emphasizes agility and performance. Aerodynamic upgrades, including a large rear wing and a more aggressive front splitter, optimize downforce for track use. The car is equipped with advanced suspension systems, centre-lock wheels, and racing brakes to handle the rigors of competitive motorsport.

Porsche produced only 23 units of the 2001-model year 996 GT3-RS specifically for racing purposes, making it the rarest model in the GT3-R/RS/RSR lineage. Their limited production and focus on motorsport make them highly sought-after among collectors and racing enthusiasts.

Our car, VIN Nr #2S692064, was supplied by the factory on December 4th, 2001 through Porsche Motorsport USA to the ZIP Racing Team (Steven Ivankovich) who immediately entered the car for the 2002 and 2003 US-racing season with the main events being the 2002 Daytona 24hr, the 6 hours of Watkins Glen and the 2023 Sebring 12 hours where the car ran with race nr 33 in black Hazardous livery. After its last race at Sebring (the full race history of the car can be seen below in the History section) the car was re-painted in its current orange Hazardous livery and used as the T-car for the teams other 996. The car stayed unused with ZIP Racing for several years until it was brought to UK by GT Classics and sold to its current Portuguese owner in 2018, who used the car sparingly thereby only adding two hours of running time to it.

#2S692064 was never crashed and as shown in its accompanying Data Delivery Sheet - is matching numbers still retaining its original body/chassis (0420004), engine (M96/77 23005) and gearbox (G96 912002204). After a complete go-through in 2024, this 996 GT3-RS is sold in excellent and race-ready condition with its 3.6 litre engine only having 10 hours running while the gearbox has only 2 hours since its last strip and inspection. The engine has been re-mapped to its corresponding, legal 30.8mm restrictors, the 100-litre fuel cell is valid until 2028 and the car benefits from current crack test, new seat, belts and comes with a spare set of wheels.

This ex-Daytona 24hr and Sebring 12hr striking orange Hazardous Porsche 996 GT3-RS is a perfect entry into historic racing and is also super competitive in its class. Eligible for Peter Autos Endurance Racing Legends (including Le Mans Classic), Masters Endurance Legends, HSR Daytona 24 Classic, etc..
