Descripción
Rarely has a brand been as closely associated with rally sport over two decades as Lancia, and few other motorsports were better suited to forging legends in the wild 1970s and 1980s. The Fulvia HF and Stratos, with their series of victories, laid the groundwork for the crazy era of Group B, where hundreds of horsepower-strong projectiles on wheels tested the limits of human reaction speeds. Both the limits of the drivers behind the wheel and those of the spectators, who often formed a hedge along the roadside in masses and often only cleared the way for the rally drivers at the last moment.
In 1983, the Lancia 037 won the manufacturers' championship for the last time with rear-wheel drive. Already the year before, Audi had made a shift with the Quattro. To remain competitive, the Italians also needed a four-wheel-drive rally car, and in collaboration with Abarth, the Lancia Delta S4 was developed for 1985. At first glance, it had little more in common with the rather dull compact car called Delta than the name and a certain external resemblance. However, Lancia had already presented a turbo-driven four-wheel-drive prototype at the Turin Motor Show in 1982 with an eye on Audi's market. In the fall of 1986, the Delta HF 4WD finally hit the market, at a time when the rally sport had long said goodbye to Group B after the fatal accident of Henri Toivonen in Corsica. The World Rally Championship was henceforth contested with more production-related vehicles according to the Group A regulations. With the four-wheel-drive Delta, Lancia was excellently positioned and won the championship in the first year.
At the IAA in the fall of 1987, Lancia introduced the Delta HF Integrale as the first evolutionary stage of the HF 4WD. Wide fenders made room for wider axles, a powerful turbo engine, which extracted 185 HP from two liters of displacement, enabled breathtaking performances in combination with all-wheel drive. But that was not the end, and in the following years, performance improvements would continue to be added.
As early as the spring of 1989, the Delta HF Integrale 16V with a 16-valve cylinder head followed. The performance increased further thanks to additional improvements to about 200 HP. In the second half of 1991, the Lancia Delta Integrale Evoluzione, or simply Evo, made its debut. This model, without a catalytic converter as a 16V, delivered 210 HP, and in countries with stricter emission regulations, the Evoluzione was available as an 8V with 177 HP, including Austria. The vehicle we offer is one of those!
The last expansion followed in June 1993 and was known as the Lancia Delta Intergrale Evoluzione II 16V. The performance was once again increased by five horsepower to a total of 215 HP. The Evo II was built in the Chivasso factory and the successes of the factory team in rally sport, with six consecutive world championships, led to surprisingly good sales figures and a huge image boost. Lancia offered a multitude of customization
options and several special models in various colors and configurations, making it almost seem like there were more special models than 'regular' Evoluziones.
For Lancia, the Delta Integrale represented a huge leap forward. The brand was on everyone's lips; to say Lancia was to mean Integrale. For over 30 years, the model name has been synonymous with superiority in technology and performance.
The life story of this Lancia Delta Evoluzione, one of the 8V models, is, if you will, quickly told. It was registered on October 21, 1992, to its first and so far only owner in Vienna-Währing and has only traveled 33,007 kilometers to date. And just as its history sounds extraordinary, it stands before us today, completely in untouched original perfect condition.
Its exterior in the beautiful Derby Green metallic looks as flawless as its gray Alcantara interior. A look under the hood leaves you just as astonished as a look under the car. Naturally, the original warranty and maintenance booklet from the delivering Fiat-Lancia center Schönbrunn is still with the car. It was deregistered in 2003 and since then has only been taken out of the garage for occasional movement drives.
Here is a unique opportunity to own a unique Lancia Delta Integrale Evoluzione, which is hard to do justice to without using superlatives. To conclude the description with as concise words as it began: It is simply an exceptional car. You have to see it, or better yet, own it soon yourself!
