The cream exterior and the dark beige leather interior match the colours as when the car left the factory in 1949.
The Jaguar XK 120 Alloy is a historically important collector car which marks the introduction of the famous Jaguar six-cylinder XK twin cam engine. The Jaguar XK 120 was designed as a ‘testbed’ for the new XK engine. Presented at the London Motor show in 1948, the performance figures (120 mph guaranteed top speed) and the gorgeous Open Two-Seater design caused a sensation, leading Jaguar founder and Chairman William Lyons to put it into production.
The first 242 cars were fitted with hand crafted aluminium alloy bodies before production of the pressed steel bodied cars started in 1950. On 30 May 1949 the Jaguar XK 120 became the fastest production car in the world with a speed record of 132,6 mph set at the Jabbeke motorway in Belgium. This rare Jaguar XK 120 Alloy with chassis number 670062 is car number 62 of 242 alloy cars built. This XK 120 alloy is one of 184 built with left-hand drive and the car was sold new to Cairo, Egypt in December 1949. In 1996 the automobile was extensively restored, invoices giving a good insight of the works carried out are present.
In the late 1990s the car was owned by the Mr. G.R. Lang founder of Chronoswiss, the renowned watch manufacturer. In this period the XK 120 alloy featured heavily in the company’s promotional material. In 1999 the XK 120 participated in the 1999 Silvretta Classic Rallye Montafon in Austria, winning a 1st place trophy. Successively the car won another award in the German Bensberg Classic. In 2003 the Jaguar XK 120 participated in the prestigious Mille Miglia Storica. The full history of the XK 120 is known and present in two large folders. This rare and very desirable Jaguar XK 120 Alloy is in a good all over condition showing a wonderful patina.
The six cylinder XK engine runs powerfully and the four speed Moss gearbox shifts like it should. The driving experience and all the impressions of speed and sound are magnificent; this XK 120 Alloy is a terrific time capsule. The car shows all the original details and is fitted with a pair of large Lucas SLR700 spot lamps at the front, a leather belt over the bonnet, and side screens with beige frames. The car comes with a FIA Historic Vehicle Identity Form, and it can be entered for any historic event around the world including the legendary Mille Miglia. The XK 120 is not a very suitable car for very tall drivers.
For them we have the option of fitting special bucket seats offering more legroom. The Jaguar XK 120 Alloy is the ‘holy grail’ in the world of Jaguar motor cars. This is a splendid opportunity to buy your ticket into the crème de la crème of historic motoring events.
