Descripción
The queen of the road: the 1963 Jaguar E-Type Coupé
The Swinging Sixties were just starting to take off when Jaguar made a brilliant design statement at the Geneva Motor Show in March 1961, the ripples from which would extend beyond the impact of an iconic new sports car. With its sensually charged forms and bold proportions – endless bonnet, short tail with side-opening boot lid – the new Jaguar E-Type shaped an era.
It was produced in three series between 1961 and 1974 and is now considered one of the most legendary classic cars. Nobody has come closer to achieving this incredible feat – at a price worth considering, of course – than the Jaguar founder Sir William Lyons. Even Enzo Ferrari declared the E-Type to be the most beautiful car to have ever been built.
The world and the press agreed. Under the characteristic bonnet lies a powerful 3.8-litre in-line six-cylinder engine that delivers the E-Type’s truly impressive performance. With peak power of 265 hp and a top speed in excess of 240 km/h, the E-Type set new benchmarks on the sports car scene in the 1960s. The combination of innovative technology and impressive performance makes the E-Type a timeless classic. The interior of the Jaguar E-Type 3.8-litre mirrors the luxury and elegance that one would expect of the Jaguar brand. Its magic persists to this day and it is often the crowning glory of a collection.
This vehicle was officially imported into Switzerland on 23 October 1962 by Emil Frey Ltd and delivered to the end customer. The first change of ownership was documented on 24 April 1989. In 1997, this frame-off E-Type was restored and painted in its original colour; all relevant documents, invoice receipts and photo documentation of this are available.
The car is in very good condition and was sold to its current owner in 2017. During its history, the E-Type has been retrofitted with a fully synchronised four-speed manual gearbox, supplemented by an electrically switched overdrive from Laycock de Normanville. Weber 40 DCOE twin carburettors have also been fitted. All original parts are still available and will be handed over to the new owner. It goes without saying that the Production Record Trace Certificate is present. The vehicle has been registered as a veteran since June 2012.
