from 1961 until the last produced in 1974. Its slim, aerodynamic design is reminiscent of a fighter jet. Under the hood lies a high-performance engine, emphasizing that feeling. This combination is also Jaguar's trademark, and rightly so, it makes them highly sought after by vintage car enthusiasts.
Jaguar owes its futuristic design to Malcolm Sayer, an aeronautical engineer who drew inspiration from fighter planes. He successfully transformed that inspiration into a true icon in the automotive world. The end result is distinctive: a long bow, a short rear, and a long, wide stance made of monocoque steel exuding class, prestige, and power. Enzo Ferrari described the XK-E as 'the most beautiful car ever made.'
In addition to the E-Type's aesthetic perfection, its roadster performance deserves mention. Initially, the British flagship came with a flat floor and was equipped with a 3.8L inline-six engine, fed by three SU carburetors, producing a total power of 265 hp. In 1964, the Series 1 underwent a volume boost, with the engine upgraded to 4.2L. Upon the unveiling of the Series 3 in 1971, Jaguar boasted a powerful 272 hp 5.3L V12, causing even more stir among fellow carmakers. The latter reached speeds of up to 241 km/h, making it one of the fastest cars on the market at the time.
The car also incorporated revolutionary technology, such as disc brakes on all four wheels. This is more than just a noteworthy gadget; it enhances safety and reliability. The gearbox was also carefully considered: the car has, to enhance maneuverability, manually operated four-speed transmission that can be shifted with the classic wooden gear lever, complementing the equally classic mahogany steering wheel.
In short, it must be admitted that the E-Type has remained a style icon over the decades. You will undoubtedly notice that this roadster is adorned with numerous accolades, and they don't seem to be rusting anytime soon. This has led to eager enthusiasts worldwide and a high demand for this car.
Series 1:
The E-Type Series 1 was released as a GT coupe and convertible, with the 3.8L engine from the XK150S. This happened in March 1961, first in Europe, a month later Americans got to know it as the XK-E. The E-Type was almost immediately labeled as 'revolutionary', and in that era, there's no denying that. The sports car was first and foremost cheaper than its antagonists. The first 500 models were sold with a flat floor, which benefited the car's aerodynamics. In addition, its design and specifications were unprecedented and groundbreaking. The car was standardly equipped with three SU carburetors feeding a 3.8L inline-six engine, producing 265 hp. In 1964, the engine capacity was increased to 4.2L, the suspension became independent, and disc brakes were added to all four wheels. The trunk emblem, also added in the 1964 revision, visually distinguishes the 3.8L from the 4.2L, and the seats were also different and significantly more comfortable than the 3.8L seats. From 1966, a 2+2 coupe version was available, with an extended wheelbase and optionally an automatic transmission.
