The Escort RS1600i developed by Ford Motorsport, was introduced in September 1981, with production ceasing in July 1983.

Ford planned to build only 5000 of these Iconic cars for homologation requirements, but it sold so well that 8659 cars were made, of which  only 2600 sold in the UK.

This Ford Escort RS1600i is presented in Concours condition. In 2007, the owner of the vehicle and well known to the RS1600i Owners Club, carefully dismantled the  car, despite it being in excellent condition. It seems his intention was to check for any aspect that needed attention. The project became a conservation and preventative measure, as the photographic record proves. The shell was rust free (helped by having Tuff-Kote Dinol treatment from when the car was 1st registered), including inner wings. The body was taken back to bare metal and repainted in the car’s original hue of Sunburst Red, and to an excellent standard, that has stood the test of time.

The same dedication went into the engine, gearbox and drivetrain, the engine block only requiring honing, rather than a rebore.

A54 BRM retains all its original and important features, such as its Ford and dealer window stickers, and its factory upgraded tinted and etched glass.

1st registered in August 1983 by County Garage of Carlisle, this car has remained in the care of RS enthusiasts and RSOC members throughout its cherished life, the only known deviation to standard is its rather sporty Janspeed stainless exhaust system.

The car has its service maintenance booklet, together with an original RS1600i sales brochure and Ford extra cover folder and booklets, as well as a set of the original Dunlop D4 tyres.
