In 1969, the general public saw the Fiat 130 Coupé for the first time. Fiat was by that time already known for producing small cars. Affordable, well thought out, good engines, and, if you take a really critical look, also innovative cars with compact engines. But Fiat set a different tone with the 130. This model belonged to the top segment, and the Fiat team did everything to achieve this. What do you think of disc brakes on all four wheels? Power steering as standard equipment? A beautiful V6 engine? A Pininfarina design? The 130 had it all.
For the development of the beautiful six-cylinder engine, the world-famous Ferrari expert engineer Aurelio Lampredi was brought into the team. Basically, the Fiat 128 engine was used – an engine that already drives very well in our opinion, and the V6 was created with overhead camshafts and eventually came in two different versions: the 2.8 liter and 3.2 liter.
Of course, a car in the top segment must have a certain appearance, in addition to technical features. Pininfarina was responsible for the design of the body, and in our opinion, a timelessly beautiful coupé was created. A fun fact is that Pininfarina also designed the interior, and we think it’s extraordinary looking. Just look at how beautiful the dashboard is with the instruments. We dare to say without a doubt that it is one of the most significant designs of this period.
With just under 4,300 examples of the Fiat 130 Coupé, it is a real rarity, and we are pleased to have such a beautiful Fiat 130 Coupé in our collection. Our Fiat 130 Coupé is even rarer because it is equipped with the desirable manual transmission. According to our literature, Fiat only built 800 examples with this combination. Additionally, this is a 3.2-liter V6 engine with 165 hp.
What a fantastic color the interior of our example has; just look at the photos. Beautiful, and it also forms a good match with the red carpets and the blue exterior color. Fiat delivered this example in 1972 in Spain. This Fiat 130 Coupé underwent restoration and overhaul work in the past, and this work is fully documented with photos. For example, the engine has been completely overhauled, along with the drive shafts and brakes. Recently, this Fiat also received extensive maintenance, during which the exhaust system was replaced along with all the wheel bearings.
Thanks to the restoration work, the exterior looks neat. The blue paint shines brightly and looks well cared for. The wheels are correct and look good, along with all the trim and windows. The characteristic Fiat grille with the headlights is beautiful, as are the chrome bumpers with black rubber strips on the sides. Underneath, we find a solid underside in good condition.
The interior is really a delight and incredibly retro. It also looks very good overall. A nice and well-functioning instrument panel, neat carpets, beautiful upholstery, and a tidy headliner. In the center console, we see a beautiful clock and a correct Autovox radio. Doesn't it look great?
Due to the overhaul work, driving this Fiat, equipped with the V6 engine, is as the Italian brand originally intended. The V6 starts immediately, runs smoothly, and has more than enough pulling power. With only 800 examples produced with the ZF manual transmission, it is not only a rare experience but also a very pleasant one. The gearbox shifts neatly and precisely. The clutch pedal feels good, and the steering is very smooth. The handling is excellent, and the car makes a solid impression.
