SALES INFORMATION

I love you, mia vita…

This is written in elegant letters on a beautifully engraved plate on the center console of this beautiful Alfa Romeo Spider. An ode to the car is very conceivable we think, but we found out that was not the case. The German gentleman who recorded this text was (and still is) married to an Italian beauty to whom he gave the car as a gift in 1991. The woman came from Modena, Italy, for many the Mekka of Italian cars. Modena, with the emphasis on MO and not on DE as the Dutch almost always pronounce it. This was made clear to us in a punishing tone. The German gentleman said that if you pronounced this incorrectly, his temperamental Italian wife could not control herself and could shout in 6 languages. Well…, we thought, the viewing is off to a good start. The Italian had also already determined the purchase price and that was at the price that the Spider is probably worth in 2035… Much too high. And we can’t wait that long, because we want to make a new owner happy with it now, and not in 2035. Fortunately, the German husband was a lot more realistic. A true enthusiast who had also described the car honestly. First owner, bought from his Alfa dealer in Germany, well maintained, completely original and an extremely low mileage of only 19.457 km. Even in our eyes, who are used to it after more than 43 years of working in cars, this was a very unique Spider.

However, our thorough inspection showed that the promised completely first paint was not entirely true.  the very astonished German gentleman said that it was impossible, because he had never taken the car to the paintshop. Could it be possible that when his wife went to Italy a few times, and alone, with the bella macchina, something happened that she wanted to keep quiet about… Well… that could be possible. A heated telephone conversation with explanations and apologies in a few languages soon provided clarity. Our Italian had indeed made a scratch years ago and wanted to have it repaired bellissimo, as befits a good Italian. In a carrozzeria in Modena of course. The layman will not have noticed it either, but of course we did. In other words, how a Dutchman let an Italian woman down. Not on purpose, but it was an extra point to make the price a bit more attractive. And so it happened.

A final greeting from the Italian was missing, because she could not handle it emotionally after having enjoyed her beloved Spider for 33 years. She however, wanted the promise that we would take very good care of her baby. We promised that of course, because all our cars end up only with real enthusiasts. So this unique Spider went to Olanda and is now ready for the next enthusiast who may also enjoy it for a few decades. And that is very possible, given the unprecedentedly beautiful quality. As new is too much to say, but the car comes very, very close to that. Perfect technique, super-smooth paint- and bodywork, the first soft top in excellent condition and an interior that we can truly call new. The underside is also impressive. All the factory waxoyl is present and has ensured that the time and rust have had no effect on the convertible. It is therefore very plausible that the Spider has reportedly never seen salt and hardly any rain.

We have said it before that when we receive a car, and we think it cannot get any better, an even more exceptional one will appear via our extensive network. Gems that are hardly available and even less often for sale. If you were not ready for one in 1990-1993, did not have the budget or space, or were not thinking about buying a beautiful Alfa at the time, then this is your chance to acquire the most attractive Spider Type 4, with a 2.0 liter engine, built in 1991, from the first owner and with less than 20.000 km on the clock.

And if you don’t see it as a corresponding piece of history, we can of course neatly remove the “mia vita” plate. We won’t be able to greet you in six languages when you come to view the car, but we will in a language that we as enthusiasts all know: car language.
