If we were to summarise the Alfa Romeo brand it would be to say they are practical versatile sports cars with racing pedigree. One of the best examples would be the Alfa Romeo GT Junior. A sportively sculpted coupé that, whether or not in GTA shape, has won just about everything there is to win when it comes to cars. Furthermore it is also one of the most beautiful 2+2’s ever made, making it no surprise this Bertone designed coupé has such an enthusiastic following.

The most popular of all are the early series models. Recognisable by the groove on the front of its bonnet, earning it the “postbox’ nickname, or “scalino” meaning step in Italian. The slightly more centred headlights and flush dashboard with recessed gauges are other characteristics that typify this model.

This is an exactly fitting description of our car. This ‘67 GT Junior was originally supplied in Italy and has a number of specifics making this a very interesting car. The colour to start with, whilst red and white were very popular due to its link with racing, this Bluette with red leather trim must be one of the most stylish combinations imaginable. Another point in the car’s favour is the very original state it is in. A long time ago it did get a respray in the factory original colour, the rest is exceptionally untouched. It immediately brings a smile to ones face. Many “postboxes” currently have been converted to GTA look-a-likes and modified to suit the modern sports driver, this one on the other hand has remained a proper classic. Small stylish steel rims, no lowered suspension, sports steering wheel or bucket seat either: this Bertone is one enormous trip back to the past.

The panelwork is in very good shape without any signs of corrosion. The old resprayed paintwork has just enough wear to have regained the look of a first coat. The alignment is very neat and because the car was sparingly used and garaged in dry conditions all of the rubbers, aluminium and chrome have remained in fine condition.

And what about that warm red interior? What a striking combination with that lovely blue paintwork. Not a pristine clinically restored car but a warm glowing atmosphere meets you where ever you look. The dashboard, switching gear and rubber matts for instance are all intact as are the door panels and seat upholstery.

The GT 1300 Junior has pleasant and good driving manners. With 1,290 cc 4-cylinder Twin-cam it was a quick car in its day. 90 hp and weighing just 930 kg took he car from 0 to 100 km/hr in 12.6 seconds, measuring up to bigger and stronger cars. Disc brakes and a 5-speed gearbox were not common place in this segment. Today you can still enjoy the GT Junior’s sporty credentials.

Accompanying the car are a bundle of invoices and paperwork dating back to its Italian past. We have known this coupé for a considerable time and are therefore even more excited to be able to offer this sympathetic Alfa Romeo for sale. As far as we are concerned this classic is the ideal choice for someone looking for a pure and original 60’s Bertone.
