Descripción

  • This is a stunning and exceptionally rare coachbuilt Italian classic, which had its debut at the 1956 Geneva motor show, and is reported to be in excellent condition.
  • Its engine is the 2.0-litre twin-cam inline-four, producing up to 115hp, and driving the rear wheels through a four-speed column-shift manual transmission.
  • Information on the Carrozzieri Italiani database indicates that only 15 cars were built by Ghia on the 1900C SS chassis, and this car is believed to be one of only two such vehicles built to this design.
  • The car is reported to have featured in both Auto Italia and Ruoteclassiche publications in 2004, before being offered for sale at the Auto e Moto d’Epoca in Padova later that year.
  • It has been in the current ownership for 11 years.
  • The odometer currently indicates 5,328 km, but the total mileage is reported to be around 57,000 km.

  • Clothed in elegant bodywork by Ghia-Aigle in Switzerland, this car is now finished in the beautiful colour of Azzurro Carta da Zucchero with a contrasting white roof, accented by subtle chrome detailing, including the rectangular fog lights that are understood to be original.

  • It rides on 400mm wire wheels, wrapped in Michelin tyres.
  • Inside, there is sumptuous Caramello leather upholstery, complemented by Grigio piping and Nero front sections.
  • There is a body-colour dashboard, three-spoke wood rim steering wheel, glovebox, manual winding windows, Voxson Silverstone radio, and dual sun visors.

Please refer to photo gallery to assess exterior and interior condition.

  • Specific notes from the seller include: that there are no significant defects or wear to mention, and that the car has been repainted in the past.
  • The seller is not aware of any mechanical or electrical faults.

  • The last scheduled maintenance was earlier in 2023 at 56,000 km, when an Alfa Romeo specialist carried out a full service.

  • Prior to this, it is understood that a new clutch was recently installed.

This Alfa Romeo 1900C SS by Ghia-Aigle represents an incredible opportunity to acquire a coachbuilt Italian sporting coupe. Understood to be one of just two cars finished to this design, it offers a glimpse into the exciting post-war world of highly bespoke vehicles, and also boasts early exhibit provenance having made its debut at the 1956 Geneva motor show. With a fresh service completed earlier this year, it is ready to enjoy on the road, but would also make a striking centrepiece to any assembly of rare classics.
