The Jaguar XK has been a much-loved English classic car in all its versions for decades. However, the XK 140 stands out a bit, especially the Drop Head Coupe version. According to many enthusiasts, this one has the right shape and proportions and the usability is optimal. This is due to, for example, the extensive storage options in the trunk and behind the front seats, and a beautifully shaped soft top that can be opened and closed quickly. In addition, the 140 still has the beautiful curved lines that are much tighter in its successor, the 150. The classic lines and the two-piece windscreen of the 140 are generally more appealing.

We recently came across this Jaguar XK 140 3.4 SE Drop Head Coupe through a contact of ours. Extensively restored by a Jaguar specialist in Berlin, Germany, the car has been in the heated garage of a doctor since 2009. The area was regularly explored and the car was kept moving well. The maintenance was also carried out in a way the car deserves. The XK came up for sale after enjoying it for 15 years. After having thoroughly examined the car and determined that it was good, there was still one thing missing and that was whether the car would have matching numbers. According to the owner, it did, but he could not say it for sure. Inquiries in England and in the meantime provided with the ordered Heritage Certificate, tells us that the numbers are correct and all the technology is still as the car left the factory. We are of course very happy with this.

The beautiful dark blue colour, called Pacific Blue, fits perfectly with the cognac-coloured leather interior and the, typical for the XK140, a lot of walnut wood on the dashboard and door panels. How English / classic do we want it? On the outside, the perfect fitting of the sheet metal and the abundant beautiful chrome are striking. The soft top is made of luxurious blue mohair and the hood cover is even in the same colour leather as the interior. That cost a lot of money to have it hand made, but then you really have something special.

The performance, especially in this SE version, is really perfect. The 210 hp and the engine torque that is more than present over a wide range, ensure driving pleasure at it best. The wonderfully shifting 4-speed gearbox with overdrive responds precisely and at any moment. But at some point we have to brake again, and even then this XK performs superb with its optional disc brakes and brake calipers with four pistons at the front.

The XK 140 is really a car that you can use for anything. A nice ride on a day off, but also a very long holiday trip, a nice organised tour or a rally; all of these are certainly possible. The reliability is really high, and if there is work to be done: parts are widely available and good (classic) Jaguar specialists can be found in many countries. In short, it is a classic car that brings a lot of pleasure, and has also proven to be a stable investment.
