The Jaguar XK-R is part of the X100 line up, presented in coupé and cabriolet versions, at the Geneva Motor Show on March 5, 1996, as the replacement for the XJ-S.

Between 1996 and 2002, the X100 fitted the 4-liter AJ26 engine, the first 8-cylinder car produced by Jaguar since the Daimler 250 and which would be replaced in 2003 by the 4.2-liter AJ34.

Leather and wood interior and driver and passenger airbags and side airbags were standard equipment in the X100 range.
