Beschreibung

On its introduction in 1961, the Jaguar E-Type was swiftly recognized as an outstanding design, boasting both stylish looks and excellent engineering. It has since been acclaimed as an icon of the motoring world and remains one of the most widely recognized and highly regarded classic cars on the planet.

The first cars, which subsequently became known as Series 1 vehicles, were available as either a 2-seat Fixed Head Coupé or an Open 2-seater (‘Roadster’) model, powered by the 6-cylinder, 3.8 litre XK engine from the outgoing Jaguar XK150. In 1964 the engine size was increased to 4.2 litres and in 1966 a longer-wheelbase 2+2 Coupé model was introduced, together with an automatic transmission option.

The Series 2 models were released in 1968, largely in response to vehicle legislation in the USA, requiring a number of safety-related changes which altered the appearance of the car. Revised bumpers, grille and lighting arrangements mostly, but the update also included power steering and air conditioning options.

By the time the Series 3 was introduced in 1971, the model was 10 years old and Jaguar undertook more radical alterations. The car was offered only in long-wheelbase 2+2 Coupé and convertible (Roadster) form, both of which now had flared wheel arches, an enlarged front grille and more chrome added. The biggest change however, was under the bonnet, where a new 5.3 litre V12 engine replaced the earlier 6-cylinder motor. The new powerplant added an element of sophistication, making the E-Type even more of a Grand Tourer.

The Series 3 Roadster offered here was first registered in July 1973. It remained in the UK until 1996, when its  then owner relocated to Guernsey, taking the E-Type with him. The car was little used and went into long term storage. The current Guernsey-based owner acquired the car in 2020 and had the vehicle recommissioned and fully serviced.

The car is currently showing under 30,000 miles and, whilst we do not have supporting paperwork, there is every indication this could be the true mileage. The car looks, feels and drives like a genuine low-mileage vehicle, with a strong, quiet engine and no knocks or rattles from the running gear. Brakes and tyres are good, as are the chrome wire wheels.

This is a very straight car, with good panel gaps and very little in the way of surface corrosion. Sills and door bottoms are in very good condition. The underside has been well protected with underseal. All suggesting a vehicle that has been relatively little used and garaged throughout its life. Whilst the car looks very smart in its rare Lavender Blue finish, this has been re-painted at some point and does carry some micro blistering. The front grille has a couple of small dents.

The interior of the Jaguar is in good shape, with the French Blue seats showing just a few signs of their limited use. The dashboard is complete with a period radio fitted. The car has a fully functioning Mohair hood in black.

This is a very attractive E-Type Roadster, in an un-common colour with good mechanicals all round and that super-smooth V12 Jaguar engine.

We have little paperwork with the car (we do have a copy of the last UK registration document from 1979) but believe it to be genuine low-mileage vehicle.

The car is currently Guernsey registered and located. We can assist with shipping and importation processes if required. We can ship worldwide.
