1970 | Ford Cortina 1600 E

Everyone has a fond memory of a Ford Cortina, and everyone who had one, probably wished they had this… the 1600E edition. The sporting and luxury 1600E was produced from 1967 until 1970, this Cortina was first delivered on the 4th of June 1970 by F.H Peacock a Ford main dealer of London.

There are only around 300 MKII 1600E Cortina's left as on the road and finding examples in this condition is becoming increasingly difficult. This example has been subject to a bare metal restoration and mechanical overhaul and this has been superbly documented in two photo albums. Also in the comprehensive history file is the original handbook, service booklet, and the FordSport club application form, More recently the car has had an external strip down and full re-paint to an exceptionally high standard costing thousands of pounds. Mechanically the 1600E has had a new custom 4-2-1 exhaust section, four new tyres, new rear brake drums, clutch fluid and brake fluid changed, and a thorough service so is ready to use and enjoy.

The MKI Cortina was a car so well received by its customers over 1 million of them were sold. The design team would inevitably have been worrying about how they could possibly follow up their success with the MKI, therefore it made sense for them to produce a MKII. Who said the sequels are never as good as the original? The MkII was taken so well by the press, with improvements made with the car's performance, handling, and spaciousness, even Fords slogan said the "New Cortina is more Cortina".To drive, this Cortina is sharp, responsive, and spritely. The 1600E boasted a 0-60 time of 12.5 seconds from its 98bhp 4-cylinder crossflow engine, a whopping 5.5 seconds faster than its 1300cc little brother.
