Description

This terrific Triumph TR3A has been part of a small car collection of beautiful classic British sportscars based in Yorkshire. MOT records show that it has been used very sparingly, covering just over 4,000 miles in the last fifteen years. We have recently re-commissioned and road tested the car following a period of storage and can confirm it is a fantastic driving car.

Present in the history file is the production record from the Standard Register confirming it presents in the Primrose Yellow exterior and Black interior as it left the factory. The record also shows that this TR was built for the export market to the USA and with whitewall tyres and a heater unit. In 2006 the Triumph was purchased by a Georgia based Attorney as a project car from the son of a former Captain of the US Army National Guard and sportscar enthusiast. A few years later, the TR3A was purchased by a member of the TR Register where it returned to the UK after spending 48 years overseas. Upon purchase, the TR3A was put through an extensive recommissioning program by the first UK owner, a member of the TR Register, with invoices on file for over £10,000 of mechanical and trim components before the vehicle had the paint work carried out in its original Primrose Yellow. A comprehensive file of invoices from various Triumph specialists is with the car to include engine work to include a re-conditioned cylinder head, fast road camshaft, new bearings and followers.

In the last few years, 345 XUM has been treated to some fresh ignition parts from the Distributor Doctor who are renowned for their quality, to include a new condenser, points, rotor arm, ignition coil, and distributor cap. To finish off the recommissioning of the ignition system new HT lead caps and new yellow-striped HT leads were made up and fitted to match the body coloured, well-presented engine bay. In 2018, the TR3 had an engine service, brake service, valve clearances were set, the vacuum advance unit was replaced, and the car was MOT tested.

The 2138cc 4-cylinder engine is extremely lively due to the performance camshaft and has great oil pressure both driving and at idle. The gearbox has excellent synchromesh on second, third and fourth gears and the axle is very quiet. The Primrose exterior colour goes very well with the superb Black wire wheels, and it has a soft top and frame as well as hard top. The body and panel work on the car is excellent throughout and considering that this is an older restoration it presents very well indeed. A very competitively priced car of this quality.
