This charming car was exported new to Australia as a bare chassis and was bodied by one of the leading car body manufacturers, Walter Whitbourn PTY of Melobourne, with a four seat tourer body which it wears to this day. It was part of a Taylor collection in Melbourne at some point and passed through the hands of Simon Beeston of Brisbane who had it professionally restored, and then it was purchased by Bob Collett of the Queensland Veteran Car Club, and then by RJS Thornton of Sydney. The car was dated by the Veteran Car Club of Australia in 1995.
The car was then repatriated in 1999 by Cyril Hunter of Scunthorpe and given the age-related registration number of SV 7832. It was dated in September of that year by the Veteran Car Club of Great Britain (certificate number 2299).
Several years later in 2011, the Talbot 4CYX was purchased by Peter Thompson of Quainton, Buckinghamshire, who had a new set of wire wheels and hubs made at a total cost of just over £7000 including new 815 x 105 beaded edge tyres. Due to ill health Peter Thompson then sold it onto the late Professor Alan Richens. It is now offered for sale by its current Austrian owner as part of his large collection of top class vehicles we have beeen tasked to sell.
The magneto has been completely overhauled by specialists Vintage Magnetos of Bicester Heritage.
The Talbot 4CYX has four-cylinder side valve engine of bore and stroke 80 x 120mm, rated at 12hp it moves the car along with alacrity & is an absolute pleasure to drive. The car benefits from dual ignition by magneto & trembler coil, an electric petrol pump, a cone cluth, four-speed gearbox, rear wheel brakes & C.A.V electric lighting system. The dash board carries a full set of original period instrumentation.
Viewings are by appointment in cartinthia southern Austria. We can collect from there & deliver world wide. This isa simply concours car & habdles drives though the mountain passes with aplomb as we can testify from first hand experience.
