Description

Auto Storica is pleased to announce this Renault 5 Turbo 2

In July 1981, the most radical evolution of the Renault 5 was launched. Marcello Gandini maximized the lines of the popular French utility vehicle by widening the hips excessively, necessary to accommodate the engine and transmission, which were now located behind the -only- front seats. Thus, the link between street and competition was born. The Renault 5 Turbo was born.

The new Dieppe creation soon proved its worth in the world of rallying, winning the Monte-Carlo Rally that same year and twice winning the Tour de Corse, with a certain Jean Ragnotti at the wheel, beating the Audi Quattro, Lancia 037 and Porsche 911 with his spectacular driving skills.

The unit we are offering today is a Renault 5 Turbo 2, the evolution of the Renault 5 Turbo.

Its engine, a 1.4-litre four-cylinder Cévennes, develops 250 hp, thanks to a ball-bearing turbo and an improved camshaft. It also has a high-flow fuel pump. All this display of power is topped off with a 4 to 1 exhaust manifold configuration.

Power is transmitted to the rear axle via a short-throw gearbox with self-locking, and a height- and hardness-adjustable coilover suspension is responsible for keeping it glued to the asphalt.

Its body is painted in the same colours and decoration as the model that competed in the 1983 Monte Carlo Rally, and it has the front bumper of the Tour de Corse version installed with a Super Oscar Rally lighting kit.

The wheels, Speedline Corse, with a spectacular rear groove, hide AP Racing 4-piston steel disc brakes. The brake force distributor and the double brake pump are from the same firm. It also has a hydraulic handbrake

Inside, a Renault 5 Turbo 1, we are greeted by an Iso Delta racing steering wheel and two firm Mod Plastia bucket seats, on which rest Sabelt 4-point harnesses attached to Renault Sport 6-point roll bars

If after seeing the photos and reading this description, you find yourself with your helmet on and your racing suit on, don't be surprised. This titan of racing history is waiting for you at Auto Storica, ready to win again.
