Description

Highlights:

  • Californian first delivery in 1972
  • Complete engine overhaul
  • Repainted in original color

Brand & Model History:
The Porsche 914 was jointly developed by Porsche and Volkswagen. Porsche aimed to replace the 912 as an entry-level model, while Volkswagen sought a new top model for its sports coupe lineup to replace the Karmann Ghia.

Initially, two main variants were offered: the 914/4 with a 1.7-liter four-cylinder boxer engine from Volkswagen and the 914/6 with a 2.0-liter six-cylinder engine from the Porsche 911 T. While the 914/4 was produced by Karmann in Osnabrück, the 914/6 was manufactured by Porsche in Stuttgart.
Due to its relatively high price and its proximity to the Porsche 911, the 914/6 was only sold in limited numbers, while the 914/4, with over 100,000 units, was a sales success for Volkswagen and Porsche.

Although initially criticized by Porsche purists and nicknamed the “people’s Porsche” or “housewife’s Porsche,” the 914 has, over the years, become a true collector's item, even among Porsche enthusiasts.

History & Condition:
Like about 75% of the total production, this Porsche 914 was originally exported to America, in this case to California. The car spent most of its life there, as evidenced by various invoices and maintenance records from the late 1990s and 2000s. The owner at the time decided on a yellow repaint to give the vehicle a fresh look. After its return to Europe, the car was comprehensively restored in 2021, including a full repaint in the original black both inside and out. The headlights and brakes were properly upgraded. A complete engine overhaul was also carried out in the summer of 2022. The body is free from rust and corrosion. The Targa roof, original wheels, and interior are in very good overall condition.

Market Position:
Unlike the rare 6-cylinder models, the “regular” 914 Porsches are still priced significantly lower than a Porsche 911. Good vehicles can be found for around 30,000 EUR, while authentically restored and particularly original examples are in high demand and can fetch much higher prices on the market.

Summary:
The popularity of the Porsche 914/4 is mainly due to its high reliability and go-kart-like driving experience.

As an extensively restored vehicle in original color with mostly traceable history, this 914 1.7 is a very interesting car for beginners. The investment costs of the previous owners by today's standards far exceed the market value of the car. A car that’s ready to drive away.

This vehicle is sold including 12 months warranty / CT Warranty.*
