The engine of the GT3, the fantastic 3.6-liter six-cylinder engine, was modified by Porsche engineers by using, for example, lightweight pistons, a dual-mass flywheel, and by fitting a racing clutch. The RS version also has modified cylinder heads with different intake and exhaust ports, increasing power to an impressive 376 hp.

In 2006, the 997 GT3 RS followed. With 415 hp and a body with improved aerodynamics, this Porsche builds on the tradition. The 997 GT3 RS was lighter than the standard GT3 and was the first to introduce Porsche Active Suspension Management (PASM) electronic active damping. For the 2008 model year, Porsche produced only 803 units of the 911 GT3 RS, making it truly rare.
