Make and Model History:
The 1968 Porsche 911 S Targa stands out for its combination of rarity, historical significance, and timeless design. Its performance and the unique Targa roof design make it a symbol of Porsche's innovation in the late 1960s. The 911 S Targa holds a key place in Porsche history as part of the early development of the Targa concept, which combined open-air driving with structural integrity.
Condition and History:
The 1968 Porsche 911 S 2.0 Targa is a rare and impeccably restored classic. This carefully restored Targa, one of only 442 examples built in 1968, is finished in its original factory color and accompanied by a Porsche Certificate of Authenticity. Powered by a rebuilt, matching-numbers 2.0-liter flat-six engine, it features a retrofitted five-speed manual gearbox, replacing the original Sportomatic transmission for a more engaging driving experience. The car has covered only 2,253 kilometers since its restoration.
Between 2014 and 2016, the car underwent a comprehensive restoration by the Polish Porsche specialist Piotr Bem Restoration Garage. The restoration process included media blasting, rust repair, a respray in the original "Light Ivory" color, and a complete interior overhaul. Photographic documentation of the restoration accompanies the car.
The interior is tastefully finished with black leather and Pepita houndstooth sport seats, complemented by new pepper grey carpeting and black waffle dashboard trim. A Blaupunkt radio, VDO instruments, tinted glass, and a leather-wrapped steering wheel complete the period-correct aesthetic.
The car rides on 14-inch Fuchs alloy wheels with Vredestein Sprint Classic tires, combining classic looks with modern performance.
A discreetly added 123/TUNE+ Bluetooth-enabled programmable electronic ignition enhances reliability.
Provenance and History:
It is believed that this 911 S Targa was originally purchased in Germany by a U.S. serviceman and imported to the United States in 1987. Around 25 years later, it was sold as a project car and brought to Poland, where it underwent restoration.
Accompanying Documentation:
The car comes with a Porsche Certificate of Authenticity and detailed photographic records of its restoration.
