Description

We offer here a 1963 Plymouth Sport Fury, as a two-door hardtop, in the special version "Golden Commando Power" with many extra options. The previous owner had bought this beautiful car in the U.S., on which then, was still much to do. A lot of restoration and repair work was done by im and we also optimized it a bit. Here you can now buy a ready to drive US classic that really looks good.

This Golden Commando Power model had a 383 HP engine, with a 4 barrel carburetor. In the previous years, it was a 361cui. However, the original engine is no longer installed. Currently, it is a high performance 413cui engine, and it is the Golden Lion version that was available on the higher priced Chrysler models from 1959 to 1961. This V8 is a rare special with two 4 barrel carburetors and corresponding increased power output. The engine runs very well, very powerful and is really fun to drive. It has a throaty sound in the rear, but the engine is nice and quiet thanks to the cast manifold. Instead of the, currently installed 413cui engine, we could offer the car, also with an alternative option. This is a Golden Commando 395 engine from a 1962 Sport Fury in very good and original condition, which we have in stock. So the car would be even more original.

Plymouth on the move

In the engine compartment was already converted to an electronic ignition, with an electronic ignition distributor from Mopar. In addition, an ignition box from Mopar, as well as it was also from 1973 standard equipment, in all vehicles. Also installed, is a power steering, with brand new power pump and a new retaining belt. The steering gear has already been sealed. The car came from the factory with a heater, not air conditioning. The heater box is currently removed and being overhauled in our shop. The previous owner installed an aluminum radiator, again you can convert to an original black radiator. The now installed, cools from the function quite well, but with copper even better. Instead of the original wiper water container, a bicycle bottle has been mounted. This is functional, who likes it optically different, can simply convert here.

The transmission has also been modified. The gearshifts are somewhat faster and more direct. This helps the transmission to last longer and leads to pleasant shifting under full load. Since it was a high performance engine from the factory, not the 426, but still high performance, the car also had a dual exhaust system from the factory. So one, is just also mounted with flowmaster pots. The car has a cardan shaft installed, which already has a "more stable" length compensation than original. It runs vibration-free in all speed ranges. Alternatively we can exchange it for an original one. The rear axle is a stable 8 ¾ (limited slip differential ) with 11" drum brakes, which was still standard in the years of manufacture. The brake system has large drum brakes front and rear. The Sport Furys got Heavy Duty Braking, so huge drum brakes that just fit into the rims, that brakes well, even without a brake booster. They are the original wheels 14" x 5". In addition, the original hubcaps, the condition of the caps is extremely good. The rims seem to have been painted, again in black. The tire size is 205/75R14 M+S at the front and slightly wider 215/70R14 tires at the rear.

The body has an exceptionally good sheet metal condition and was qualitatively and completely repainted. With a white exterior paint the car probably already came from the factory, because in the engine compartment and on the hood from below the original paint is still on it. The new color contains a little less yellow as it was original. What was done a little different here is the black stripe on the hood. Which is visually, but blends in with all the chrome and black interior.

Rust on the fenders, the typical places for this model, is not to be seen. Only on the trunk floor, the middle area has already been replaced with new sheet metal. Other exterior areas are still completely in order and you can see nicely in the trunk that there has been no rear end damage from an accident. Frame condition is very good. All four frame beams are straight and have no rust damage. The fuel tank is tight and has been replaced once before. Most of the body seals on the vehicle have also already been replaced, such as the trunk seal, door seals and roof rail seals.

The Sport Fury, in addition to its many beautiful emblems, had also received the most trim, of all the models. Here, all trims are completely present and in incredibly good condition. Dents and dings can be discovered only minimally. Likewise, the front and rear bumper, are still the originals and have been rechromed before. In addition, bumper guards are mounted on the front of the bumper. Also, at the rear there are more trim pieces than on the other base models, these too are in pristine condition. In addition, the Fury has the reverse lights on the left and right, next to the license plate, only as there were on the higher models.

The windows are all intact, minimal scratches on the driver's side, rear side window. The windows are all tinted all around, also an extra option not everyone had. The original side mirror is installed, also the inside mirror is chrome and has a day/night switch. Also small highlights are the installed original stainless steel wiper blades and wiper arms, as well as the antenna in original version and top condition.

Since the car was already registered in Austria and the typification for historic vehicles in Austria is somewhat stricter than in Germany, European headlights are already installed. The main headlights are H4 and the high beam headlights are converted to H1 with E license plate, both for the EU. Also all the chrome brackets, around the lights, are in great condition.

The interior has been restored with a lot of effort, it doesn't get much nicer than this. The Sport Fury is equipped with individual seats and center console, which in these years of construction was not yet made of rickety and crack-prone plastic, but of sheet metal. The last owner has also installed a modern radio, which has found its place in the center console. For this purpose, a loudspeaker has been installed in the rear, on the parcel shelf. The original radio is still where it belongs, and the trim next to it looks just perfect. But for those who want, we can also convert the original radio to get modern features like Bluetooth, hands-free, etc.

The dashboard has also been restored. The dashboard edge, that which is just above the gauges, is in the model years mostly, by intense sunlight, porous, dried up and cracked. Here everything has a top condition. Just like the padding and the speaker grille next to it. This soft padding there was only, in the higher model variants, all others had there sheet metal and no padding. The glove box is also like new, with original insert. The steering wheel "Full Blow Steering Wheel", was a special version with a 360° horn ring on the steering wheel. Furthermore, the steering wheel has either been extensively restored or is in incredibly good original condition. It is in the upper ring area, colored white and shimmers in mother of pearl optics. Not only the pushbutton of the 3-speed automatic transmission, but also all other buttons are present. All displays work, even the clock runs smoothly. Even the dials, as well as the hands are like new.

The door panels have been refurbished, in black and white with stainless steel trim, as they were originally. The comfortable seats have been reupholstered, also in black with white trim. So has the black headliner. The rear shelf has also been renewed. As well as the complete carpet, armrests are present and good. The only thing that still does not work are the two door latches right and left, so that the open doors, stay open. Here a spring is missing, which is classically broken, spring and roller can be retrofitted quite easily. All parts for this model are available in our online store or can be ordered.

Even in the interior you can find a lot of chrome. Only the Sport Fury models, had the interior trim around the windshield, rear window and also around the side windows in chrome and have a great condition, all others had them mostly painted in body color or black.

The car now has German TÜV and H license plates. So all you need to do is register it and you can start cruising straight away.
