Description

This show standard Morris Minor Series MM is a wonderful, unrepeatable find with a history very special within Morris and the city of Oxford. OJO 206 was first registered in Oxford on the 23rd January 1950 and supplied new to a Miss M E Langham, known as Ella, an employee of Nuffield Exports (formerly Morris Industries Exports). Ella had joined Morris in 1938 and during the war, when not at Morris she trained and worked as a Red Cross nurse. Ella, based in Cowley, Oxford kept the Morris Minor for 30 years and a truly wonderful history file full of invoices, MOT’s and history dating back to the 1960’s is with the car. Interestingly in October 1963 BMC Service Ltd in Cowley supplied a new Goldseal engine for the Morris and today this engine is still in the car. Further to this service invoices, handwritten car logbooks recording work and lubrication service sheets from the 1970’s are with the car detailing repairs and maintenance.

In 1980 the Morris changed hands for the first time, staying local and purchased by a Mr Tothill who for many years had worked within the Experimental Department of Morris Motors. When he purchased the car directly from its first owner the Morris wasn't taxed so a set of trade plates were borrowed and OJO 206 was then driven to Morris Motors as its new owner has special permission to store the car in a warm garage for a number of years. In 20 years of ownership the Morris only covered 65 miles and was kept in beautiful order as evidenced by photos (including photos in storage at Cowley Works) in the history file. In 2000 OJO 206 was purchased by another long term owner, then also in Oxford and a former employee of Morris Motors. During 23 years of ownership around 6000 miles were covered in the Lowlight and it proudly attended many Morris Owners Club events, rallies and shows. This magnificent example was sold by us in 2023 to one of our long term customers in Essex who has used and enjoyed the car locally and it now returns in part exchange for an open top 50's classic.

When purchased by its more recent long term owner in 2000 the Morris was incredibly well presented and for many years it was enjoyed on the show and rally scene and exhibited with pride. Whilst in lovely condition, the cars owner of 23 years decided to take the Morris to show standard condition and over 2021/2022 spent around £16000 taking this car to an unbelievable standard. The car was stripped down and treated to a top class re-paint and road wheels were re-furbished. The beautifully aged interior was treated to a new wool headlining and sun visors and the engine was removed from the car and subject of a complete rebuild. The engine was then detailed and re-fitted to the car with a new clutch, all new coolant hoses and the engine built up to a beautiful standard. Since the work OJO 206 has covered very little mileage and is quite simply outstanding. The paintwork has an incredible deep, gleaming finish, the bodywork is exceptional and the interior has the feel of a beautifully kept, original car. Mechanically superb after it engine rebuild, the Morris is a delight to drive and without doubt offers an unrepeatable opportunity considering its recent expenditure, and of course wonderful low ownership, detailed history. Further to the mentioned early history are magazines featuring the car and invoices for the recent work. A show standard car such a special Morris connection, it could be impossible to find another Lowlight like this...
