The SL Series 107, which came to market in 1971 as the successor to the so-called "Pagoda" (Mercedes-Benz W 113), introduced a new design line at Mercedes-Benz with its wide H4 headlights and large ribbed taillights. A slight wedge shape indicated improved aerodynamics. The designer responsible for this series was again Friedrich Geiger, who was also responsible for the timeless creations of the 300 SL (including the Roadster) and the Mercedes-Benz 500 K. The appearance of the R 107 defined Mercedes-Benz design in the 1970s. Many details were also found in the S-Class introduced in 1972, the Mercedes-Benz W 116.

As with the previous model, the USA was the largest sales market. The majority of vehicles were equipped with large V8 engines. The A-pillar was specially reinforced for rollover protection, and airbags were available from 1982 onwards.

With the 450 SLC, 450 SLC 5.0, and 500 SLC, Daimler-Benz participated in major rallies such as the 30,000 km Vuelta à la America del Sur (1977), the Safari Rally (1979), and the Bandama Rally (1979/1980).

A successor model was already developed in the early 1980s, but it was postponed in favor of the W 124 and W 201 mid-range series. As a result, the R 107 series remained on the market for a total of 18 years. The successor to the SL (R 107) was the R 129 introduced in 1989, and the official successor to the SLC (C 107) was the SEC of the W 126 series, introduced in 1981.

The 107 Roadster was extensively revised over the years. Like the engines of the S-Class at the time, the R 107 also underwent continuous changes to adapt to changing environmental regulations. The engine size and performance changed several times. In 1985, the Mercedes-Benz R 107, a two-seater roadster with optional emergency seats in the rear, underwent one of its most extensive revisions. From then on, vehicles could be delivered with a catalytic converter upon request. The catalytic converter became standard in 1986, and from 1989, it was mandatory. As of 1989, models without a catalytic converter could no longer be delivered. These vehicle models were known as RÜF versions from 1987, as they were retrofittable vehicles whose catalytic converters could be removed in emergencies.

The Mercedes-Benz R 107 was produced in Sindelfingen until 1989, and its successor was manufactured in Bremen from 1989 onwards.

Of course, before delivery, a new customer service will be carried out in our Mercedes-Benz workshop, and the vehicle will be presented to the TÜV for re-approval.
