Description
The new Mercedes-Benz 180 was presented in September 1953. This marked the beginning of the modern era at Daimler-Benz with car bodies without a separate chassis. One year later, the six-cylinder models were also modernised. The Type 220 a was a comfortable touring car with a lot of understatement. Through continuous further development, the Type 220 SE was the first everyday vehicle in the world to be launched on the market with an injection engine. Because the design effort required for open-top variants was very high, the 220 S cabriolet was not available until July 1956. Only 1,942 examples of the largely hand-built luxury cars, later also equipped with the fuel-injected engine, were produced as convertibles and coupés. The price of DM 23,400 successfully prevented larger numbers from being produced. For this reason and because they are comfortable, equipped with sufficient power and retain their value, they are still considered very interesting as classic cars today.
Our Mercedes-Benz 220 SE Convertible has been completely restored and then only rarely driven, so it is almost as good as new. It is registered in Germany and can go on tour immediately.
